ANALYSIS: Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston enjoyed another impressive outing during their Week 2 victory against the Las Vegas Raiders and has reached must-roster territory.
In this contest, Johnston caught three of his seven targets for 71 yards and a touchdown. The majority of his yardage came on an impressive 60-yard touchdown reception.
More importantly, seeing Johnston tie a tem-hgh in targets (seven) with Keenan Allen and outpace Ladd McConkey's five targets is an excellent sign for his rest-of-season outlook. In Week 1, Johnston scored two touchdowns and also saw seven targets, which were just behind McConkey's nine and Allen's 10.
Even though the Chargers have three top wideouts who can produce at a high level, which could limit each other's ceiling due to target competition, quarterback Justin Herbert has proven that he can sustain all three wide receivers.
In 2024, Johnston showed flashes of similar upside but struggled to find consistency. The former first-round pick appears to be taking a significant step forward in his development this season and is proving to be the team's primary deep threat option.
While he may have occasional "down" weeks due to playing alongside McConkey and Allen, who warrant a high target share, given their offensive environment, he appears to carry flex upside every week. Johnston should be viewed as a priority wire target in all formats heading into Week 3.
He would see his value soar if either Allen or McConkey were to miss time at any point in the season.
