LIV Golf Betting Picks: 2025 UK Preview and Best Bets

dustin johnson PGA DFS lineup picks daily fantasy golf advice

Matt Miller's LIV golf betting picks and betting strategies for 2025 UK event at JCB Golf and Country Club. He digs into the LIV golf betting lines to find the best bets and top values.

The LIV Golf League will hold this week’s event at JCB Golf and Country Club in Uttoxeter, England. The course hosted the 2022 and 2023 JBC Championship on the European Senior Tour and the 2024 LIV Golf UK event. JCB Golf Club and Country Club is ranked as a top-100 course in Britain and Ireland. It has also been voted the number one course in Staffordshire. JCB opened just six years ago and has received some serious praise in its short existence.

This will mark the fourth consecutive season that LIV has held an event in the UK. The Centurion Club hosted the inaugural LIV event in 2022 and also hosted the 2023 LIV London event. This will be the second year JCB is hosting the UK event, and recently it was announced that the event was also renewed for the 2026 season.

The event will be played Friday-Sunday and will air on the Fox Sports Network in 100% of U.S. markets, as well as the Fox Sports App and LIV Golf Plus. Globally the event will be broadcasted in over 160 international territories Live and On-Demand, via LIV Golf Plus.

LIV Golf United Kingdom Course Breakdown

Below is the official Round 1 scorecard provided by LIV Golf.

Hole 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Out
Par 4 4 5 4 3 4 4 4 3 35
Yardage 403 337 610 409 199 506 470 421 170 3525
Hole 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 In
Par 5 4 4 5 3 4 4 3 4 36
Yardage 632 399 303 627 155 470 426 244 426 3718

JCB was designed by Robin Hiseman and constructed on a 240-acre site in Staffordshire. The course can play just over 7,300 yards from the tips but is listed at 7,243 yards on the round one scorecard. The course will be played as a par-71. The breakdown of yardage is quite interesting as all three par-fives on the scorecard play over 600 yards, two longer than 625 yards. With potential trouble lurking, these will be played as three shot holes for a majority of the field. However, there are also two drivable par-fours on the course, holes two and twelve, playing 337 and 303 yards respectively.

Last year Ian Poulter spoke to Mike McCallister about JCB and asked what type of scores we could expect for the week. Poulter told McAllister, “You’ll see a few eagles, birdies, bogeys, doubles.” Sam Horsfield, Poulter’s teammate and a member at JCB chimed in that there will be “others”, suggesting that huge numbers could be in play on some holes this week. That came to fruition throughout the week at JCB. Eight players in the field last year made at least 17 birdies on the week and 17 players had at least one eagle. On the flip side, there were double bogeys and worse all over cards throughout the week. The top ten players on the leaderboard combined for six double bogeys or worse in the final round alone.

I also spoke with Alex Cejka who won the JCB Championship here in 2022. He told me the keys to success were “hit it long and straight and make every putt. Haha that place is amazing but you gotta have grit to win there.” The tournament that week was won at -11 over three days, the 2023 JCB Championship was won at just -6.

My takeaway from listening to players and watching last year's event is that a major key to success is staying out of trouble and avoiding blow-up holes. Players are going to have their opportunities to make birdie and eagle this week. As noted above, nearly half the field finishing with at least one eagle last year. The key is minimizing the damage because trouble is lurking on this course for players who miss in the wrong spot.

Interestingly enough, there is not a specific skill set that is required to win here. Jon Rahm won last year's event at -13. Rahm finished just 24th on the week in driving accuracy and 15th in distance. They key for him was that he finished the week third in GIR percentage and made just four bogeys total. Tyrell Hatton, who finished second on the week finished with just one bogey, but also had two double bogeys.

While players don't need to hit every fairway or bomb the ball to have success this week. Rahm's GIR percentage statistics from last year's event show that even though he wasn't hitting fairways, he was still putting himself in position to hit greens. The misses Rahm had still allowed him to avoid making big scores. I will be looking at strategic players who know how to work their way around a golf course.

Dustin Johnson +3300 (FanDuel)

Dustin Johnson is continuing to trend up. His +1.05 strokes gained on average per round at last week’s Open Championship marked the fifth consecutive week he has gained strokes on approach. It was also his third consecutive week gaining over a stroke per round on the field in this category.

DJ also heads to England with a putter that is trending in the right direction. The 4Aces captain gained 1.81 strokes on the field on average per round at the Open Championship last week. He finished the week seventh in the field in strokes gained putting overall. He has now gained strokes with the putter in four of his last five starts.

Dustin Johnson continues to speak confidently about his game at his press conferences. He has stated several times over the past few events that he feels like he’s hitting the ball very well and that his game is very close to being back. With good iron play recently and a hot putter, I like DJ’s chances to put it all together this week and get back in the winner’s circle.

Paul Casey +3300 (FanDuel)

Paul Casey had a huge letdown week in Spain the last time we saw him tee it up, finishing T32. However, I still like Casey and the form he had prior to that event. At the end of June, he lost in a four-man playoff to Patrick Reed in Dallas. Casey gained over two strokes per round on approach in that event.  It was the third time in four weeks that he gained strokes on approach.

Casey finished fifth at this event last season. Not only is the event in his home country but the course fits his game perfectly. In my opinion, there is a case to be made that Paul Casey is the best LIV player to not win an event yet. He has lost in two playoffs and has had three additional top five finishes on LIV since the start of 2024. We saw Reed get the monkey off his back in his home state at LIV Dallas; can Casey do the same at home in England?

Tom Mckibbin +3300 (FanDuel)

Things did not go as planned for the 22-year-old last week at the Open Championship. Despite the missed cut, there’s a lot to like about Mckibbin’s game lately. He enters this week with two consecutive top five finishes in LIV events. In both those events, he gained strokes off the tee, on approach and around the green.

Mckibbin has four top ten LIV finishes in ten starts this year overall. While coming close and winning are two very different things, especially for a 22-year-old, Mckibbin has all the talent in the world to do it. He’s gained strokes off the tee in every LIV event this year and has gained strokes around the green in each of his last six. He was the best putter in the field last week through two rounds at the Open Championship. If the hot putter continues and the irons cooperate, we could be looking at a breakthrough week for the young Englishman.

Henrik Stenson +12000 (FanDuel)

I am taking a longshot flyer this week on Henrik Stenson. Stenson has just two top 20 finishes on the season so there isn’t a ton to justify this being a worthy pick. However, I do have a gut feeling that the Swede is going to surprise some this week. If you dive a bit deeper in the stats, Stenson isn’t playing nearly as bad as his finishes indicate.

Stenson for starters is the most accurate driver of the golf ball on LIV in 2025. He has also now gained strokes on approach in five of his last six starts. In a tournament where avoiding big scores is key, I like the idea of having a guy who finds fairways and is hitting his irons well on my card. Even if Stenson's finishes haven't been great, his game should be well suited for this course and UK golf is where he plays his best.
