Fantasy Football Drop Candidates

Read the recent news and fantasy outlooks of some of the top cut candidates:

Daniel Jones, QB - Indianapolis Colts (Cut List Ranking No. 1)

Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen said that quarterback Daniel Jones' Achilles injury could be season-ending. Steichen couldn't confirm the exact severity or timeline, but he said that it's "not looking good." If Jones' season is officially over, it will be an abrupt ending to his Comeback Player of the Year candidacy. The former first-round pick out of Duke had drastically exceeded expectations during his first year with Indianapolis, completing 68% of his passes for 3,101 yards, 19 passing touchdowns, and eight interceptions.

He also had 164 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns. The Colts are already without Anthony Richardson Sr. (eye), so losing Jones for an extended period of time would bump Riley Leonard into the starting role. Indianapolis is 8-5 and would slot into the No. 7 seed in the AFC playoff picture if the season ended today.

Zach Ertz, TE - Washington Commanders (Cut List Ranking No. 2)

Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz (knee) is feared to have torn his ACL during Sunday's Week 14 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, according to head coach Dan Quinn. Ertz exited during the second half of the 31-0 defeat and was visibly emotional while being carted to the locker room.

Washington is now 3-10 and will miss the playoffs, but the loss will be felt nonetheless, especially given how Ertz's veteran presence impacted the team both on and off the field. If his season-ending injury is confirmed, Ben Sinnott will step up as the Commanders' No. 1 tight end for the rest of the year.

Jayden Daniels, QB - Washington Commanders (Cut List Ranking No. 27)

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels (elbow) is still expected to play again this season despite exiting Sunday's Week 14 contest with an injury. Head coach Dan Quinn said that Daniels could have returned to the game, but the team decided to exercise caution and hold him out. He also noted that Daniels will return this season, and he won't be shut down. "It's an important development time for him," Quinn said.

Injuries have plagued the 24-year-old in his second pro season, as he has missed part of eight different games. It sounds like Daniels has a chance to play in Week 15 against the New York Giants, giving the Commanders an opportunity to bounce back from this weekend's 31-0 loss against Minnesota. If Daniels can't suit up, Marcus Mariota will step in as the Commanders' No. 1 quarterback.

Alvin Kamara, RB - New Orleans Saints (Cut List Ranking No. 49)

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara (ankle, knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's Week 14 divisional matchup with the Buccaneers. Kamara was held out of practice with ankle and knee injuries and will now miss his second consecutive game. After a slow start in a Week 13 loss to the Dolphins, sixth-round rookie Devin Neal finished with 47 rushing yards on 14 carries while adding three catches for another 22 yards.

He showed good decisiveness and burst, but struggled to find any space behind a banged-up and overmatched offensive line, evidenced by almost 94% of his rushing yardage coming after contact. Tampa Bay has been uncharacteristically soft against the run this season, so Neal remains a low-end RB2/flex play, especially in PPR formats, having earned 10 targets over the past two weeks.

Garrett Wilson, WR - New York Jets (Cut List Ranking No. 50)

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson (knee) has been sidelined since Week 10 with relatively few updates on his status. Now, despite the Jets trending toward missing the playoffs, Connor Hughes of SNY speculates that Wilson will be activated and will return to the lineup before the end of the regular season. When explaining his belief that Wilson will play again this year, Hughes cited the receiver's desire to contribute.

"Garrett is such a different guy," Hughes said. "He wants to win so bad, and he wants to be on the field so bad that when he is healthy and he can clear and pass all the tests, I don't see the Jets being able to keep Garrett out of the lineup. He is going to want to be out there, and the Jets are ultimately going to have to put him back out there." The exact timetable for Wilson's return is unclear, but presumably, he'll be back for some or all of the fantasy football playoffs.

He should benefit from having Tyrod Taylor under center, as his best game of the season came with the veteran quarterback throwing him passes. That happened back in Week 3, and Wilson caught 10 passes for 84 yards and one touchdown. Upon his return, Wilson will rank as a low-end WR1 in fantasy football.

Trey Benson, RB - Arizona Cardinals (Cut List Ranking No. 35)

Arizona Cardinals running back Trey Benson (knee) has possibly already taken his last snap this season. Benson has been working his way back from a knee injury he suffered in Week 4 that landed him on injured reserve. He had his practice window opened two weeks ago, logging a few limited sessions before not practicing last week. Per the rules, Benson must be activated within the 21-day window to play again this season.

If not, he will remain on injured reserve. Time is running out for Benson to return, as he will need to be activated by next week to play again this year. Fantasy managers with an IR spot should continue to stash Benson until he's officially ruled out for the year. Bam KnightMichael Carter, and Emari Demercado (ankle) will likely continue to split up the carries in the backfield with Benson sidelined.
