RotoBaller PGA: One And Done Staff Picks - Northern Trust

The PGA RotoBaller staff digs into their One and Done selections for the Northern Trust. Here are some under the radar plays and picks for this week's event.

Here at RotoBaller, we are always searching for ways to give our readers the best fantasy sports content possible. With that goal in mind, we are very proud to announce the addition of a weekly PGA “One and Done” column. In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar and Gianni Magliocco will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!

The RotoBaller OAD contest has turned into a throwback fight of the 1950s, but after a grueling war of attrition, we are finally into the 15th round and ready to decide a winner.

Joe landed a massive haymaker last weekend at the Wyndham Championship with Viktor Hovland, notching a paycheck of $297,600 to reclaim first place over Gianni. With only three events to go, let's see who the two will be taking this weekend in New Jersey

Featured Promo: New Novig users get a $25 purchase match (50% discount up to $25) on your first Novig deposit, and 6 free months of RotoBaller's "Big-4" Premium Pass (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL) which includes exclusive tools for Betting, Props, DFS and more! CLAIM IT NOW

For an in-depth breakdown of the top DraftKings and Fanduel plays, check out Joe Nicely's weekly Horse For The Course that highlights the best fits for the week's course.

And you can also find out who the smart money is on by checking out Spencer Aguiar's PGA DFS: Vegas Report every week.

2019 Northern Trust

Liberty National Golf Club

7,370 Yards - Par 71 - Greens Bentgrass

Liberty National Golf Club has seen some major renovations over the years after dissatisfaction from the players in 2009. Twelve holes were redone before the 2013 edition of this event, with significant changes being made to the greens, fairways and bunkers.

As of today, there are 90 bunkers and 10 water hazards on the course. The fairways are of average width, but nasty fescue and bluegrass rough will come into play on wayward tee shots. The greens are tricky and should be fast at 12+ on the stimpmeter, and the narrow landing zones on the putting surface does make it challenging to hit greens in regulation.

Wind can play a factor if it is blowing in from the Atlantic, and long iron play will be at a premium because of the tiny surfaces. The five par-fours that measure between 450 to 500 yards are BRUTALLY DIFFICULT and will play as the most challenging holes all weekend. Golfers who can maintain their score through that stretch and perform during the par-fives will be at a major advantage all weekend.

One and Done Selections

Joe Nicely - Justin Rose

Alternate -

Back in business! My man Viktor Hovland shot me back in the lead in our little contest with his fourth-place finish last week at the Wyndham. I really love what this new crop of youngsters are doing on the PGA Tour and the trio of Hovland, Collin Morikawa, and Matthew Wolff all have very bright futures ahead of them.

While it’s fun to tinker with shiny-new toys in some tournaments, it’s back to serious business this week at the Northern Trust, the first event in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. With the season’s top-125 golfers in attendance, there’s no shortage of talent in this field and I (remarkably) still have some really good options available to me in our OAD contest. I’ve kicked myself over the last few weeks for not deploying some combination of Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood at the Open Championship and WGC-FedEx, but it sure is nice to have this pair of Englishman still available for the Playoffs.

I’ll be going with Justin Rose this week, with his T2 at Liberty National back in 2013 serving as the tiebreaker over Fleetwood. I’ve honestly been a Rose naysayer for most of the season, but you can’t argue with results, and the defending FedEx Cup champion has posted some strong finishes over the last couple of months. He’s making every putt that he looks at (fifth in this field in SG: Putting) and his ball striking is good enough to make him a real threat to win this week. It has been an amazing OAD season here at RotoBaller and no matter what happens over these next couple of weeks it’s been an exciting contest with two great competitors in Gianni and Spencer! - Joe Nicely

Yearly Earnings - $9,831,260

Yearly Cuts Made - 26/29

Spencer Aguiar - Jordan Spieth

Alternate - Tyrrell Hatton

I write an article every week talking about how you should view things from a contrarian perspective when it comes to sports betting and DFS, but sometimes you have to follow your friends. If Gianni says #WeArePlayingSpieth, you better believe that I am copying him and choosing the American this weekend.

Yes, this selection is a little tongue-in-cheek, but my deficit to both Joe and Gianni requires a hail mary choice if I want to survive for another week from a mathematical perspective. It has been a fun season, and congratulations to both of my competitors on a fabulous contest, but the time has come for Gianni's haters to hate. We are playing Spieth. -Spencer Aguiar

Yearly Earnings - $6,250,982

Yearly Cuts Made - 27/29

Gianni Magliocco - Gary Woodland

Alternate - Bubba Watson

Having announced (shrewdly) earlier this week that he was playing Jordan Spieth, I've little doubt that Spencer will be stealing the headlines in New Jersey.

For myself, with a limited amount of quality players left to try and chase down a scorching Joe in this contest, I'm placing my trust in Gary Woodland this week.  I don't particularly love the pick, given his recent form and comments concerning the difficulty he has had playing since introducing twins to the world. But let's face it, more than half the time nothing makes any sense in this sport anyway, so why not take a chance on a major winner?

With my options limited, I'm taking Woodland, who finished T2 at Liberty National when it last hosted a playoff event back in 2013, to try and get me back in the game. - Gianni Magliocco

Yearly Earnings - $9,609,712

Yearly Cuts Made - 25/29
