Week 2 Waiver Wire Pickups - Daniel Jones, Trevor Lawrence, Michael Penix Jr. Fantasy Football Outlooks (2025)

Daniel Jones - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, Waiver Wire Pickups

Week 2 fantasy football waiver wire pickups for Daniel Jones, Trevor Lawrence, Michael Penix Jr. in 2025. Read their waiver wire outlooks for fantasy football.

The quarterback position is generally the easiest one in which to find waiver wire heroes that can save your season. We've seen plenty of examples of this, from Brock Purdy in 2023 to Bo Nix in 2024. Top-10 quarterback production in fantasy football can often be had without investing draft picks in players.

Nix finished as the overall QB7 in 2024, and Purdy as the QB6 in 2023. Aside from the obviously elite quarterbacks with huge rushing upside, like Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, and Jalen Hurts, it doesn't make a ton of sense to use an early-round pick on a QB.

Many quarterback breakouts don't happen until later in the season, but this year, we've already seen surprise performances from a few signal-callers, including Indianapolis Colts QB Daniel Jones. So let's dive into waiver pickup analysis for three QBs for Week 2 of 2025!

Daniel Jones Week 2 Waiver Wire Outlook

Rostered: 10% of Leagues

Baller Move: Add In All Leagues

Jones was perhaps the biggest surprise of the weekend. He battled for the starting job with former starting QB Anthony Richardson in the offseason, and Jones appears to have absolutely snatched the job with little chance of losing it after his Week 1 performance.

Jones racked up 272 passing yards and 26 rushing yards, throwing for one score and rushing for another two. He finished with nearly 29.5 PPR fantasy points, the most by far of any QB rostered in under 50 percent of fantasy leagues. A change of scenery has worked wonders for the former New York Giant.

Jones is no longer suffering from one of the league's worst offensive lines and one of its worst receiving corps. The new team has afforded him massive upgrades on both fronts, with the Colts having a nice group of pass-catchers with plenty of depth and one of its best pass-protecting offensive lines.

Investing a top-15 pick on tight end Tyler Warren is also proving to be a great decision. Jones is a big-bodied QB with underrated rushing upside, and he showed that by adding 14.7 fantasy points on the ground. Jones should be added to all leagues this waiver wire period.

It's unlikely that he has such elite production throughout the season, as the Dolphins' defense was putrid and their offense turned the ball over four times, allowing the Colts more possessions, but Jones is at least worth stashing or using as trade bait.

Trevor Lawrence Week 2 Waiver Wire Outlook

Rostered: 45% of Leagues

Baller Move: Stash in 12-14+ Team Leagues

Lawrence struggled in his first game of 2024, completing 19 of 31 pass attempts for just 178 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He rushed four times for 12 yards as well, finishing with just 11.3 fantasy points. Lawrence missed time at the end of last season, so it makes sense for him to be rusty.

The Jaguars don't have a loaded offensive roster like the Colts do, though. Their offensive line is much more porous, having graded poorly in pass protection last season, and it doesn't seem that Lawrence has quite the rushing upside that Jones has.

Lawrence should have smoother days ahead of him. The combination of wide receivers Brian Thomas Jr. and Travis Hunter struggled in Week 1, but keep in mind this is a new offense. Head coach Liam Coen was hired after the 2024 season, and he led one of the NFL's best passing attacks that year.

If you have Lawrence on your bench in deeper leagues, he's probably not a great drop yet. In six-point pass TD leagues, you should keep him rostered, and in deep leagues, make a move for him if someone lets him go.

Michael Penix Jr. Week 2 Waiver Wire Outlook

Rostered: 36% of Leagues

Baller Move: Stash in 12+ Team Leagues

Penix scored 24.0 PPR fantasy points in his first outing as a starter in 2025. He completed 27 of his 42 passes for 298 yards and a passing score, and rushed for 21 yards and another touchdown. He's unlikely to have a rush TD every week, but the production was encouraging.

Still, it came against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who struggled to rein in quarterbacks last season, allowing the second-most fantasy points per game to opposing signal-callers. So it's not a huge surprise that Penix had a nice fantasy day.

Penix played well overall, but we just don't have a lot of data on him at this point. Also, his top receiver, Drake London (shoulder), is dealing with a shoulder injury. Penix is worth an add in leagues with 12 or more teams as a bench stash, but he's hard to start in Week 2 if London doesn't play or is hampered by his ailment.
