Vikings Acquire Mike Wallace From Fins, Release Greg Jennings

It's been a busy couple of days for the Minnesota Vikings.

On Friday, it was reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter that the Vikings had agreed to terms on a deal that would send wide receiver Mike Wallace and a 2015 seventh-round pick to Minnesota in exchange for a 2015 fifth-round pick being sent to the Miami Dolphins.

The Vikings, who had interest in signing Wallace to a long-term deal back in 2012, finally get their man. The 28-year old receiver has three years left on his five-year, $60M deal, costing Minnesota just north of $9.8M in 2015.  The Dolphins, despite being freed of Wallace's contract, will incur a $6.6M cap hit in dead money for the upcoming season.

While Wallace has certainly not been as productive in his last two seasons in Miami as he was in Pittsburgh, he was a Pro Bowler in 2011 and did manage to catch 68 passes for 879 yards and ten touchdowns in 2014 despite being phased out of the Dolphins offensive scheme at times during the season. Conflicts between Offensive Coordinator Bill Lazor and Wallace, compounded with his large contract and the signing of Ndamukong Suh to a mega-deal likely led to Wallace's departure out of the Magic City.

The day following the acquisition of Wallace, Minnesota announced that they had released veteran wide receiver Greg Jennings. The 31-year old, who was signed by the Vikings prior to the 2013 season, never lived up to expectations with the team. He caught a total of 127 catches for 1,546 yards and ten touchdowns in his two seasons with the purple and gold.  Jennings was also due a base salary of $8.9M in 2015, earning the same base salary for both of the next two years before his five-year, $45M contract expires.

According to Zach Kruse of Bleacher Report, Jennings is most likely to land with the Chiefs, Dolphins, Seahawks, Raiders, Ravens or Patriots.

For Vikings fans, its been an eventful two days, seeing quarterback Teddy Bridgewater's favorite receiver being cut from the team and a potentially new favorite receiver being brought in. For Minnesota's general manager Rick Spielman, its out with the old and in with the new.
