San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (toe), still affected by a turf toe injury suffered in Week 1 and reaggravated in Week 4, missed a fifth consecutive game in Week 9. Head coach Kyle Shanahan referred to Purdy's injury as "probably something that doesn't go away all year, regardless of when he comes back," as reported by The Athletic's Vic Tafur. Based on Shanahan's assessment, Purdy will be playing through pain if and when he resumes starting duties. Doing so would limit his mobility and, in turn, potentially affect his effectiveness. Until Purdy can get healthy enough for game action, Mac Jones will remain under center for San Francisco. Jones improved to 5-2 with the 49ers' 34-24 win over the Giants on Sunday. Should his role as interim starter extend to Week 10, he will face a Rams defense he gouged for 342 yards and two touchdowns in Week 5.--Dan Stephens
