NFL DFS Stacks & Value Picks: Week 5 Guide

We have officially hit the portion of the NFL season where we will need to navigate around teams on byes.

Teams on a Bye Week 5: Atlanta Falcons, Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, and Pittsburgh Steelers

Washington Commanders vs. LA Chargers

  • Current Spread: LA -2.5
  • Current Total: 48.5

Commanders' Offense: The Daniels & Deebo Effect

Jayden Daniels is set to return in Week 5 after missing last week due to a knee sprain suffered in Week 2. Some DFS players will avoid Daniels because of his absence, but the 2-2 Commanders would not roll him out there if he were not fully healthy. I fully expect a full dose of Daniels here against a Chargers defense coming off a bad loss to the NY Giants and rookie QB Jaxson Dart.

With Terry McLaurin being held out of practice all week due to a quad injury, even if he does end up suiting up, the Commanders will rely heavily on Deebo Samuel Sr. in the passing game. In 2025, Samuel leads the Commanders in catches (22), targets (27), yards (204), and is tied for first in receiving touchdowns (two). He has also received seven rushing attempts for 46 yards and 1 score. In fact, over the last two weeks (Weeks 3 and 4), Samuel has received three carries in each, signaling that the Commanders want to utilize him as he was used in San Francisco, as a versatile gadget player.

Chargers' Backfield: Unleashing Omarion Hampton

The Chargers are heading home after an embarrassing 21-18 loss to the NY Giants in Week 4. Justin Herbert struggled to get anything going, completing just 23 of 41 passes for 203 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions.

The bright spot in Week 4 was the Chargers' rushing game, spearheaded by promising rookie Omarion Hampton, who will lead this backfield for the remainder of the year with Najee Harris going down with a season-ending Achilles tear in Week 3. Hampton rushed for 128 yards on 12 carries and a score.

No other player outside of Hampton and Herbert received a carry in Week 4, which means Hampton will be a workhorse for this Chargers team moving forward. There's more: Hampton was not only heavily involved in the ground game but also caught five passes for 37 yards. In Week 5, Hampton will look to continue his success against a Washington team that just gave up 181 combined yards and a score to Bijan Robinson and the Falcons.

Chargers' Pass Attack: Fading Johnston for Allen

Quentin Johnston is having a breakout campaign in 2025 and has been playing out of his mind. However, his cost in DFS has been steadily rising with each good week. Instead, look to pivot in Week 5 and grab veteran Keenan Allen at a lower price tag, who actually has two more receptions on two fewer targets than Johnston this season.

Allen has been a volume monster since returning to the Chargers this offseason, seeing a total of 35 targets in the first four weeks. The Commanders have given up the 10th-most fantasy points to wide receivers this year, and if Washington focuses on taking away Johnston's big-play ability, I will happily pay for the lower-cost, high-volume wide receiver Keenan Allen in Week 5.

Recommended DFS Stack Options

  • Daniels / Samuel: (High-floor stack leveraging McLaurin's injury)
  • Herbert / Allen: (Volume stack leveraging Allen’s price/volume/matchup)
  • Daniels / Samuel / Hampton: (High-floor mix stack combining both offenses' top playmakers)
  • Herbert / Allen / Hampton: (Full Chargers attack stack)

Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Jets

  • Current Spread: Dallas -2.5
  • Current Total: 47.5

The Jets' Defensive Crisis & Gardner's Complaint

After the Jets' loss to the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football, cornerback Sauce Gardner pointed fingers at the referees, claiming that he is getting called for more penalties simply because the Jets are not winning. Yikes! The highest-paid cornerback in the NFL had a tough day, getting flagged for a pass interference call that led to a Miami score and allowing a touchdown on a key fourth down in the second quarter. This Jets defense is a mess, and it won't get any easier as they host the Dallas Cowboys in Week 5, who currently sit first in the NFL, averaging 404.3 yards per game.

The New York Jets are giving up 30 points per game thus far, which is the fourth most in the NFL.

Targeting the Cowboys' Scorching Offense

Dak Prescott has been ballin, leading the NFL in total passing yards with 1,119, completing 72.9% of his throws, for six touchdowns and three interceptions. Prescott and the Cowboys will be without their best offensive weapon for the second straight week, CeeDee Lamb, but Prescott didn't show any signs of missing his number 1 wideout in the team's Week 4 40-40 tie against the Green Bay Packers (319 yards, 3 touchdowns) in Week 4. Prescott connected with his new number 1 wideout, George Pickens, eight times for 134 yards and two scores.

DFS Pick: Pivot to Jake Ferguson

However, Pickens is not the player to stack with Dak here in Week 5 against the Jets. Sauce Gardner is still an elite corner, and I believe that with all the controversy surrounding his complaining, he's going to step up and shadow Pickens all game. With Gardner focused on eliminating the top wide receiver, that should open up the short-to-intermediate area of the field and funnel targets directly to the Cowboys' reliable, volume-based tight end, Jake Ferguson, who has become Prescott's number two weapon with Lamb being out.

In Week 4, Ferguson caught seven passes for 40 yards and a score. In fact, Ferguson leads all tight ends with 34 receptions and ranks fifth in yards with 223.

Jets are Bad, but the Cowboys are Worse

As favorable as the Prescott matchup is, this game has massive stacking potential because the Jets defense, as bad as they are, has been better than the Cowboys defense in 2025. The Dallas defense is a major liability. The Cowboys are averaging 420 yards per game, with 297 of them coming through the air, both ranking dead last in the NFL.

The Jets' offense played pretty well in Week 4 against the Dolphins. Justin Fields threw for 226 yards, one touchdown, and added 81 yards and a score on the ground. He connected 6 times for 82 yards and a score with his number 1 wide receiver, Garrett Wilson.

The terrible defenses, the scorching hot Cowboys offense, and the middle-of-the-pack Jets offense make this game a great game to stack in Week 5.

Recommended DFS Stack Options

  • Prescott / Ferguson: (High upside but costly at the TE position stack)
  • Fields / Wilson: (Mid-range price point, high upside Jets stack)
  • Prescott / Ferguson / Wilson: (Costly but high upside potential)
  • Fields / Ferguson / Wilson: (High to average price point, high upside mix stack)

Miami Dolphins vs. Carolina Panthers

  • Current Spread: Miami -1.5
  • Current Total: 44.5

The Hill Injury and Waddle WR1

On paper, this game doesn't look too appealing for any fantasy formats. However, if we take a deeper dive, it actually sets up well for some DFS stacks in Week 5. The Miami Dolphins finally got a win in Week 4 against the Jets, 27-21. Tua Tagovailoa threw for 177 yards and two touchdowns, and De'Von Achane rushed for 99 yards and a touchdown, while adding a catch for two yards. However, the victory was bittersweet as they lost superstar wideout Tyreek Hill to a season-ending knee injury.

One might ask why we would target this offense without Hill? Jaylen Waddle is arguably one of the best WR2s on any NFL team, with an argument that he could very easily serve as a WR1 on most teams. Waddle will be shadowed by Pro-Bowler Jaycee Horn, who just got torched by Stefon Diggs in Week 4 for 101 yards on six catches; Waddle has the potential to do the same.

DFS Pick: Value with Malik Washington

Despite Waddle's potential, his price point will be extremely high with Hill out. Instead, if you are looking to stack this game with a value pick (but a much lower floor), look to target Malik Washington at a cheaper price point. The 24-year-old, 5’8”, 194-pound wide receiver out of the University of Virginia is extremely shifty and has the talent to make plays for this Dolphins team.

Someone has to step up in Hill's absence, especially with his big-play ability missing from this offense moving forward, and attention from the defenses being given to both Waddle and Achane. I think Washington can be that guy.

The Anchor: De'Von Achane’s Opportunity

Achane is always a good pick and will be highly rostered in DFS moving forward with the injury to Hill. Facing a Panthers defense that has been vulnerable to the run and his involvement in the passing game, Achane will have every opportunity to produce. Depending on what you are willing to spend at the RB position, Achane is the clear focal point of this offense.

The Panthers' Breakout Candidate

Rookie Tetairoa McMillan is a star in the making for the Carolina Panthers. He leads the Panthers in targets (35), receptions (18), and yards (278). He has yet to truly "breakout," and this game sets up nicely for this to happen. In Week 4, the Dolphins gave up 82 yards on six receptions and a score to the Jets' number 1 wide receiver, Garrett Wilson.

Quarterback Bryce Young has had an up-and-down season thus far, but should be able to get McMillan and this offense going in Week 5 against the Dolphins. The Panthers' rookie is dominating downfield targets, and the Dolphins' pass defense ranks poorly against the deep ball, setting up a potential breakout game.

Recommended DFS Stack Options

  • Tagovailoa / Washington: (Low price point, Dolphins core with high upside but low floor)
  • Tagovailoa / Washington / Achane: (High-volume Dolphins primary stack)
  • Tagovailoa / Waddle: (High upside, costly, primary WR stack)
  • Young / McMillan: (The Panthers breakout stack)
  • Washington / Achane / Young / McMillan: (Low-cost, high-upside game stack mix)
