Counter Strike: Global Offensive DFS Picks (8/17/21) - DraftKings Daily Fantasy

Koby Hansons' DraftKings. DFS lineup picks for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on 8/17/21. He analyzes CS:GO slates and top targets for eSports DFS contests.

Welcome back, RotoBallers, to another edition of my Counter-Strike: Global Offensive DFS picks.  Oh, how it is good to be back, the long-player break has come to a close as we finally get our first major tournament in almost a month. We almost nailed the day as Vitality and Heroic took care of their jobs but Spirit choked maps 2 and 3 away and they fell to Astralis. For tomorrow we get Vitality taking on the Bad News Bears after they were decimated by Heroic, Heroic takes on Spirit, and Astralis gets a great match against Ence who looks to rebound after a tough loss to Vitality.

Today I'll be bringing you my Counter-Strike: Global Offensive DFS lineup picks, analysis, and advice for eSports DFS contests on DraftKings for Tuesday, August 17th, 2021, at 7:30 AM.

Be sure to also check out our awesome CS:GO Premium DFS Tools including our Lineup Optimizer, Research Station, Projections, and DFS Cheat Sheets! ESL Pro League Season 14

Best of 3

  • Team Vitality (-2000) vs. Bad News Bears (+825)
  • Astralis (-200) vs. Ence (+145)
  • Heroic (-155) vs. Spirit (+120)

Captain Plays

Dupreeh: With how this tournament is designed, we are going to get the same teams for 5 days total. I want to try and showcase a different player each time, but sometimes we might be limited. Today we get Dupreeh getting the top spot. He had a stellar performance in their win over Spirit today as he went for +10 on 52 kills. I like the consistency we get from Dupreeh and the matchup is great. I don't think Astralis blows them out, but I don't think Ence keeps it insanely close either. This could end up being a sweep but I'll say 3 maps but a very close map if they do lose a map. Dupreeh over the last three months holds a 1.10 K/D and is averaging .7 KPR and has a low .64 DPR. He has been great against these Tier 2 teams, and I like him to continue that trend into tomorrow. I also like magisk, but Dupreeh is slightly cheaper.

TeSeS: TeSeS, went on an absolute rampage this morning as he had a 3.23 K/D over two maps and finished with a 42/13 stat line. He is a bit on the expensive side but he has shown to be the best player on this team over and over and the matchup against Spirit will continue to show that. In their last meeting against Spirit, it went all three maps and TeSeS had 78 kills with a +14 K/D differential. He is in an elite spot for and even though his price is up there, I could definitely see making him a priority in my lineups against a Spirit team that struggles to close games out. His average K/D over the last three months is 1.12, with a .73 KPR and a .65 DPR.

Other captain plays in order of preference: ZywOo(Duh), Magisk, misutaaa, Cadian, hades(GPP)

Value Plays

Kyojin: I'm gonna play this one as matchup and recency bias, Kyojin has never been the player for Vitality to attack and grab at a low price point, as he hasn't shown me anything in the past to warrant rostering him. In this case, though, he is only 6,200. He is playing a very poor team in BNB and is coming off an excellent game where he went +4 on the day. He has shown against poorer teams he can play well, against 01 he had +8, DBL Poney +5, and even Furia he had +3. I think for the price he is definitely worth it to help get you some higher-priced players in your lineups.

Lucky: Okay, this one is super risky but I like his price point at 6k. It looks like he might be in the starting lineup for a few games to get him used to the team and get him warmed up and ready for future Tier 1 tournament. Today was his first game played on the team for Astralis and had a positive day with 40 and a +1. Lucky is their new AWPer, something Astralis desperately needed. All-time, Lucky has had a 1.13 K/D and a .72 KPR with a low .63 DPR. Today's game was tough and he played well, tomorrow is a slightly easier matchup and at 6k, I think he could crush this price as long as he plays all the maps. As I said, it's a risk but he is cheap.

Other value plays in order of preference: Cadian, Stavn, Apex, hades(GPP), Degster(Large GPP),  refrezh(PUNT)

Top Stacks / Team Picks

Vitality: Safest stack for sure. Heroic absolutely dominated them today as they won 32-5. I expect a similar outing here, maybe a couple of extra rounds won for BNB but that only helps ZywOo and friends, because that can end up adding more kills to their totals. ZywOo is by far the best pick but is expensive, misutaa would be my next favorite as well. Kyojin looked fantastic today in their win over Ence and is still insanely cheap. ApeX looked pretty good but I'm very hesitant in playing him as he can be volatile. Shox is a bit expensive and looked pretty bad today. I expect a bounce-back but not worth the price.

As for a secondary stack, I would look to Astralis or Heroic. Ence is probably the safest GPP pick as I'm not sure Spirit can handle how dominant Heroic is looking.

Other Stacks: Astralis, Heroic, Ence(GPP)

Note: A couple of things here regarding who is playing as DK has some players listed out and that is just not the case, Allu is out for Ence. For BNB, both junior and Spongey are playing, and alter is not.

Note 2: In regards to Astralis, they now have a 6 man roster and have said that they are going to come out and use Lucky from Day 1. That means we have a chance at sub-risk. I think the most likely options to get subbed would be Xyp9x and Bubzjki. Gla1ve, Magisk, and Dupreeh all look like they would be safe from being subbed. So be wary rostering these players. At this moment it looks like Xyp9x is lucky's substitute.
