Jake Finnen highlights the top FanDuel NBA DFS lineup picks for 3/28/19, and a couple of sleepers to consider while building daily rosters.
Not the conventional introduction, but since each team only has a few games left, we need to address Hassan Whiteside. What exactly is the plan going forward with him because I'm lost when it comes to playing him. When his price was closer to $6,000 it was easier to just accept fading him and hoping he didn't have a monstrous game. Now that his price is on the cheap end, it almost feels dumb for not rostering him. The problem is, he could very well post a stat line that reflects why his price is that low, BUT WHY?
I might get angry thinking about why Whiteside doesn't have any consistency whatsoever in fantasy, but watch him and you have the answer. He doesn't give a consistent effort each night, so this is just what it is. When his price is this low against Dallas, I'm going to play him. FanDuel DFS Guards
Spencer Dinwiddie - PG, BKN @ PHI (FD - $5,800)
His usage rate isn't as enticing as it was the past few months, but as long as he is scoring 20 points a game nothing else really matters. The Nets are in the thick of the playoff race and outside of a select few games, they generally keep things competitive. Brooklyn has flourished because of spectacualr play from both D'Angelo Russell and Spencer Dinwiddie, and they have managed to compliment each other to a point of creating a threatening backcourt tandem.
They aren't Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, but if one isn't hitting, the other can usually pick up the slack, which allows both to find comfort in their game. Both players want to shoot and generate offense, but have shown no problems playing the shooter in certain situations. Tonight, Dinwiddie should be the facilitator and Russell should find himself in a ton of isolation situations with favorable matchups because of it.
Goran Dragic - PG, DAL @ MIA (FD - $5,000)
Goran Dragic is clearly getting his range back and even though he has posted multiple 20-point games this season as it is, the sustainability is going to be a problem. Dragic will eventually get back into form, but scoring zero points on nine shots is very uncharacteristic of him.
The Mavericks don't have the strongest backcourt when it comes to defense so while Dragic has upside, unless he is hitting his shot, it's unfortunately limited. Luckily for him and players who roster Dragic, Head Coach Erik Spoelstra always makes sure that Dragic is getting touches and taking shots. That won't change going forward but there will be games where Dragic looks like he is one-game back from an injury because that's just how injuries work.
FanDuel DFS Forwards
Dorian Finney-Smith - SF, DAL @ MIA (FD - $3,500)
This is more dependent on whether Luka Doncic plays or not. Dorian Finney-Smith hasn't been doing much of anything outside of a game versus the Cavaliers, but that's just the box score talking. He still does the little things on the court, like play defense and attempt to space the offense, but if he isn't hitting, he holds no value. Luckily for him and us, the Heat rank in the bottom 10 versus opposing small forwards.
That means both Doncic and Finney-Smith have a ton of upside and if this game stays close, both should see extended minutes through small-ball lineups. The Heat will be playing for a playoff spot, so no matter what direction this game goes, Finney-Smith should see extra minutes.
Serge Ibaka - PF, TOR @ NYK (FD - $6,500)
Serge Ibaka has actually seen a fairly significant drop in minutes lately, but his usage has increased over the past month. He won't be as productive as he was in January and February, but this matchup is basically asking for him to drop 15 points and seven rebounds. Not much needs to be said about the Knicks defense, but Ibaka is still producing despite only playing 20 minutes in the last few games. The Raptors are going to start resting players and resorting to their bench more frequently, but Ibaka and players like Marc Gasol will still have DFS-relevant games in the waning section of the season.
FanDuel DFS Centers
Hassa... Marc Gasol - C, TOR @ NYK (FD - $5,700)
The Raptors are basically cruising at this point. It's not that seeding doesn't matter, but they have much more important goals than just getting a top seed. Yes, the Raptors not making it out of the first round of playoffs and always underachieving is a funny joke, but this year they just aren't the same team. They'll be in the Eastern Conference Finals, its just whether they can last against a team like Milwaukee.
Marc Gasol adds defense and spacing to the second unit and he usually plays more minutes in closer games. Since he is one of the better centers in the league despite lacking athleticism, he still is a more than productive player when put in the right situations. He has already double-doubled with assists against the Knicks once this season so his upside remains fairly high, even with a blowout looming. You could also pivot to Willie-Cauley Stein if you don't trust Gasol tonight.
