Tyler Huntley is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup option for quarterbacks. Target him as a free agent add off waivers for Week 3 of the 2024 NFL season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 2QB Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 0% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: The Dolphins officially signed quarterback Tyler Huntley to their active roster on Tuesday. He joins the team after Miami placed quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) on injured reserve.
Huntley spent his first four seasons backing up Lamar Jackson in Baltimore. Although he signed with the Browns this offseason, they cut him near the end of training camp, and he re-signed with the Ravens. Now, he heads to his third AFC team to offer depth amidst Tagovailoa's extended absence.

The Dolphins will start Skylar Thompson at quarterback in Week 3, but Huntley is expected to compete for the starting role in future weeks if the Thompson experiment goes awry. Huntley has looked solid as an NFL starter before, completing 64.6 percent of his passes for 1,957 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
Huntley also adds value in the rushing attack, posting 509 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns through parts of 20 games.
The Dolphins don't have a perfect Tagovailoa replacement in Huntley. After all, Tagovailoa is known for his strong arm and deep ball placement, while Huntley impresses with his legs. Still, the Dolphins are preparing to be without Tagovailoa for a while, so any sort of talent under center is valuable.
Huntley is worth stashing in deeper 2QB leagues, but only if managers have an open bench spot to play with. There's no guarantee that Huntley will play a single snap this year.
On the other hand, he could also start as soon as Week 4 if things go bad with Thompson. Therefore, managers should hold Huntley for a little while. If he does end up playing, his rushing upside will give him legitimate fantasy value as a top-18 quarterback.
