Should I Draft De'Von Achane or Christian McCaffrey? Fantasy Football ADP Duel for 2025 Drafts

2025 Fantasy Football Early-Round Best Ball Busts, Overvalued

De'Von Achane or Christian McCaffrey - who should I draft for 2025 fantasy football? Brandon's ADP duel and pick recommendations for running backs De'Von Achane and Christian McCaffrey.

Fantasy football can be an increasingly maddening game, where every pick can pivot your season’s fate; understanding Average Draft Position (ADP) is a game-changer for savvy managers. When it comes to running backs, the choice between two similarly ranked players often presents a nail-biting dilemma, as their close ADPs reflect a razor-thin margin of perceived value. This article, ADP Duel, explores the strategic art of navigating these tight races, offering a deep dive into how to evaluate the subtle differences between running backs vying for the same spot. By decoding ADP trends, you can outmaneuver the draft board and build a roster primed for victory from the opening round.

Running backs remain the backbone of most fantasy lineups, and deciding between two nearly identical options is a critical moment in any draft. Factors such as workload distribution, offensive line strength, injury history, and upcoming schedules can tip the scales when choosing between backs with comparable ADPs. In this piece, I’ll break down these variables with real-world examples, such as comparing a workhorse like Derrick Henry to a committee back like Jaylen Warren, to highlight how small nuances can lead to big fantasy payoffs. Whether it’s a battle between a proven veteran and a breakout candidate or two high-volume rushers, mastering the context behind their ADP positions equips you to make informed, confident selections.

ADP Duel will arm you with the tools to conquer these running back conundrums, turning indecision into decisive action. We’ll analyze specific player matchups, leveraging ADP data, expert projections, and statistical trends to guide your picks. By the end of this article, you’ll have a clear strategy for tackling those tense moments when two running backs are on the clock, ensuring you draft not just with the crowd but ahead of it. Get ready to sharpen your skills and transform ADP duels into draft-day triumphs for your fantasy season.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

De'Von Achane - RB, Miami Dolphins

ADP: RB6, 14th Overall

De'Von Achane of the Miami Dolphins is a fantasy football firecracker at his current ADP, sitting around the 12th-to-14th overall pick (RB5-RB7 range) in 2025 drafts, making him a steal for managers willing to roll the dice on speed and flair. His 2023 rookie campaign was a blur, averaging a ridiculous 7.8 yards per carry and dazzling with three consecutive games featuring 55+ yard runs, culminating in a 51.3-point fantasy explosion against the Broncos that had opponents wondering if he’d strapped on rocket boosters.

In 2024, Achane leveled up, leading all running backs with 78 receptions for 592 yards and six touchdowns, while adding 907 rushing yards and six more scores at 4.5 yards per carry, proving he’s not just a one-trick pony but a full-course meal.

With Tua Tagovailoa slinging passes and a revamped Dolphins offense projected to hum along, Achane’s dual-threat role—think of him as a caffeinated Usain Bolt with a football—gives him a ceiling that could outshine pricier backs like Saquon Barkley, especially at this ADP.

Some might hesitate, pointing to Achane’s 2024 dip in rushing efficiency or the threat of a timeshare with Jaylen Wright, but dismissing him is like skipping dessert to save room for broccoli—silly and shortsighted. His 2024 usage rate soared to 66% of snaps in games where he stayed healthy, and with Wright's limited usage in his rookie season not showing signs of a bump in snaps quite yet, Achane’s path to a workhorse role looks clearer than a Miami beach day.

The Dolphins’ schedule in 2025 features soft run defenses, such as the Commanders and Jets, where Achane’s 81-yard touchdown scamper in 2023 still haunts his nightmares, and his fantasy floors, propped up by his receiving prowess, suggest reliability. Compared to Henry, who’s a bruising RB1 but 31 and touchdown-dependent, Achane’s youth (23 in 2025) and receiving upside make him the better long-term bet at this draft slot.

Snagging him here is like grabbing a turbo-charged fantasy gem before the hype train leaves the station—act fast, and watch him sprint to your championship.

Christian McCaffrey - RB, San Francisco 49ers

ADP: RB7, 15th Overall

Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers remains a fantasy football titan at his current ADP, hovering around the 13th-to-15th overall pick (RB6-RB7 range) in 2025 drafts, and for good reason. Aside from the looming injury question marks, he has remained the Swiss Army knife of running backs you didn’t know you needed until he’s shredding your league.

In 2023, he dominated as the RB1 with 1,459 rushing yards, 14 rushing touchdowns, and 564 receiving yards with seven more scores, a stat line that earned him NFL Offensive Player of the Year and had fantasy managers toasting champagne. His 2024 campaign was derailed by a multitude of lower-body injuries, including persistent concerns about his Achilles health.

At an age (29) where fantasy managers begin to feel a bit nauseous with how a running back can continue to carry the load for their team, McCaffrey could be viewed as one of the ultimate wildcards in fantasy drafts as he can throw a team on his back and carry them to a championship on his own.

With Kyle Shanahan’s creative play-calling and a reloaded receiving corps including Brandon Aiyuk (return date from torn ACL and MCL remains murky), second-year Ricky Pearsall, and Jauan Jennings, McCaffrey’s workload (80% snap share when healthy) positions him for another 300+ touch season, making his ADP feel like snagging a Lamborghini at a clearance sale.

Sure, injury concerns linger like a bad referee call, but McCaffrey’s two-year ironman streak (33 games played between 2022 and 2023) reveals a player who can stay on the field and, at times, is tougher than a two-dollar steak.

Compared to peers like Ashton Jeanty, who comes into the NFL on fresh legs and a willingness to take on a bell-cow role, or Achane, who’s a speed gamble, McCaffrey’s balance of volume, receiving chops (67 catches in 2023), and red-zone reliability (21 total TDs that year) gives him a higher floor—think 20+ point outings like his 48-point massacre of the Cardinals.

The 49ers’ 2025 schedule features winnable matchups against the Jaguars, Falcons, and Cardinals, where McCaffrey’s 2023 177-yard, four-TD performance still echoes, and his chemistry with Brock Purdy ensures a steady diet of checkdowns.

Drafting him at this ADP is like hiring a fantasy MVP with a side of humor—he’ll make you laugh all the way to the championship with his highlight-reel jukes and bankable production.

Fantasy Football Verdict

When facing this decision in your drafts, it will simply come down to just how much risk you are willing to take on early in the selection process. Both players present an immense amount of upside that could potentially see them rank among the top 2-3 RBs for the 2025 NFL season.

But there are variables at play that could bring them crashing back down to Earth and subsequently ruin your dreams of a fantasy football championship. With Achane, as we saw in 2024, when Tagovailoa is healthy and starting for the Dolphins, Achane became a fantasy football dynamo, piling up receptions.

Meanwhile, with McCaffrey, he relies solely on his own health. If McCaffrey is on the field and without limitations, he undoubtedly remains in the discussion as the best player in fantasy football. For me, that is enough of a separator if I am facing this decision during the draft.

I'll take on the risk that comes with McCaffrey, cross my fingers and pray to the Fantasy gods, in hopes of a return to greatness.
