3 Fantasy Baseball Prospects Outlooks - Roman Anthony, Kumar Rocker, Jacob Wilson

Kumar Rocker - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Prospects, Draft Sleepers

Andy analyzes three top fantasy baseball prospects - Roman Anthony, Kumar Rocker, Jacob Wilson - who could make big impacts this season. These MLB prospects are potential stashes.

Even though the regular season has just begun, it is never too early to begin stashing young prospects. Last season, several top prospects received an early MLB promotion and became must-start players during the remainder of the season, like Paul Skenes. In addition, some prospects even broke camp with the MLB roster and became top options at their position, like Jackson Merrill.

In this piece, we will look at Boston outfielder Roman Anthony, Texas starting pitcher Kumar Rocker, and Athletics infielder Jacob Wilson.

Are these prospects worth stashing, and do they carry enough upside to warrant holding on your roster? Let's dive in.

Roman Anthony Fantasy Baseball Outlook

BALLER MOVE: Stash in 12+ team five-outfielder leagues

ANALYSIS: The No. 2-ranked prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline, was in contention to make the MLB roster but fell short in the competition. During spring training, he posted a .206/.391/.324 slash line with one home run and a 10:12 BB:K. He was given a good opportunity to make the roster with Wilyer Abreu, who was battling an illness, but was able to turn the corner in time for Opening Day.

As a result, Anthony will begin his 2025 campaign at the Triple-A level.

Last season, Anthony opened the campaign but received his first extended look at Double-A. Across 84 contests with the Portland Sea Dogs, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS product posted an impressive .269/.367/.489 slash line with 20 doubles and 15 round-trippers. He held a 48:96 BB:K and swiped 16 bags.

He was then promoted to Triple-A, taking his production to the next level as he posted a stellar .344/.463/.519 slash line across 35 contests. Anthony tallied 12 doubles with one triple and three long balls during this stretch. He swiped five bags and held an impressive 31:31 BB:K.

Given his strong play at Triple-A last season, the 20-year-old might not need much time this season to continue his development. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to his production early in the Triple-A regular season, as Boston may call his name quite early.

Abreu enjoyed an impressive Opening Day as he launched two home runs but held a modest .253/.322/.459 slash line last summer. If he begins to hit a skid, expect Anthony to get the call to the big leagues.

Anthony could also have a path to the majors if center fielder Ceddanne Rafaela struggles early in the season. If Rafaela were to lose playing time, Jarren Duran could shift to center field, which would open left field for Anthony.

Anthony is a high-upside stash option in all formats and is a must-roster in all five outfielder leagues.

Kumar Rocker Fantasy Baseball Outlook

BALLER MOVE: Stash Everywhere

ANALYSIS: With Cody Bradford (elbow) and Jon Gray (wrist) opening the campaign on the injured list, Kumar Rocker was able to earn a spot in the starting rotation. During spring training, Rocker struggled at times but saved his best outing for his last as he struck out eight over his final four 2/3 innings.

The 25-year-old made his MLB debut late in the 2024 campaign and logged just 11 2/3 innings to the tune of a 3.86 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP.

Rocker was initially drafted by the New York Mets with the 10th overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft but was unable to sign a contract. He then re-entered the MLB Draft in 2022 and was selected third overall by the Texas Rangers.

However, the 25-year-old had a rough start to his professional career, as he underwent Tommy John surgery in May 2023 after logging just 28 innings with High-A. During this short stint, he tallied 42 punchouts and held a 3.86 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP.

He returned to action last July and logged 36 2/3 innings in the minors before reaching the majors. Across this stint in the minors, Rocker performed at an elite level, posting a 1.96 ERA and a 0.79 WHIP with a stellar 5:55 BB:K.

Given Rocker's ability to generate an elite number of whiffs, he should be rostered in all formats. In addition, given Bradford's and Gray's injuries, the Rangers could provide Rocker ample opportunities to succeed in the major leagues, as they do not have many other options to deploy in the rotation.

While he may not be a must-start option yet, he should be stashed safely on your bench due to his strikeout upside alone.

Jacob Wilson Fantasy Baseball Outlook

BALLER MOVE: Stash in 12+ team formats

ANALYSIS: The former sixth overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft was on the fast track to the big leagues last season. After posting an impressive .318/.378/.455 slash line across 23 contests in High-A in 2023, Wilson opened the campaign in the upper levels of the minor leagues.

In 22 games at Double-A, Wilson posted a .455/.475/.705 slash line with 13 doubles and three long balls. He scored 18 runs, tallied 19 RBI, swiped two bags, and held a 2:10 BB:K.

Wilson then moved up to Triple-A, where he continued to swing a hot bat. In 26 games with Triple-A Las Vegas, Wilson posted a strong .396/.448/.613 slash line with 11 doubles and four long balls. He tallied 42 total hits and added 26 runs and 17 RBI. The Grand Canyon University product showed a strong eye at the plate as he held a stellar 9:5 BB:K.

The shortstop was then promoted to the major leagues in July. In his first 28 MLB contests, Wilson posted a .250/.314/.315 line. He tallied two doubles and two triples but did not go deep. However, he suffered a hamstring injury, which eventually cut his season short. During this brief stint in the majors, he continued to show an elite eye at the plate as he held an 8:10 BB:K. He only struck out more than once in one contest.

Under the hood, he posted a promising .266 xBA, which was well above the average marks. He also generated a 12.7 percent strikeout rate and a 9.7 percent walk rate, both of which were well above the marks of qualified hitters.

Wilson swung a hot bat during camp and proved that this injury was well behind him. Across 19 games in the Cactus League, the infielder posted a .308/.321/.558 slash line with one double and four round-trippers. He tallied 13 RBI and only struck out twice.

The 22-year-old was given the starting nod on Opening Day. In this contest, he went 1-for-3 and tallied his lone hit off Seattle right-hander Logan Gilbert.

Fantasy managers should expect Wilson to continue to operate as the everyday shortstop for the Athletics. Given his elite contact skills and eye at the plate, he should be rostered in all 12+ team leagues. In addition, fantasy managers looking to find a strong batting average contributor should consider stashing Wilson, as he could become a valuable contributor in that category, given his track record in the minor leagues.

While he may not carry elite power upside, his contact skills alone make him worth targeting in all 12+ team formats. If you are in need of batting average production, do not be afraid to raise your FAAB bid on Wilson this weekend.
