Week 17 of the NHL campaign is in the books, and it's time to update our power rankings once again. With only a few days before the Olympic break, the playoff picture is rounding into form, and the contenders continue to distance themselves from the rest of the league.
This week, we saw the Blue Jackets extend their massive surge and are now just outside the Eastern playoff picture.
All statistics and team records mentioned are updated as of Monday, February 2. Who were the biggest risers and fallers from this past week? Let's dive in!
No. 32 - Vancouver Canucks
Last Week Ranking - 32
The Canucks saw their losing streak reach three games when they fell to Macklin Celebrini and the Sharks on Tuesday night. However, they would show some progress over their last two games, taking down the Ducks (2-0) on Thursday night and then falling to the Maple Leafs in a shootout on Saturday.
Despite the productive finish to the week, the Canucks still enter Week 18 as the bottom team in the sport. They sit with a league-low 42 points and an 18-31-6 record.
No. 31 - New York Rangers
Last Week Ranking - 31
The Rangers made a strong case to fall to the bottom spot, but will hold the No. 31 slot entering Week 18. This week, the Rangers took down the Bruins on Monday night, but quickly reverted to form over the last three games. Over their final three games of the week, the Blue Shirts would fall to the Islanders twice and the Penguins on Saturday afternoon.
With Artemi Panarin being a healthy scratch for "roster management" purposes, Mika Zibanejad has taken the lead in the scoring department. Over his last 14 games, the center has scored 11 goals and tacked on 11 helpers.

No. 30- Chicago Blackhawks
Last Week Ranking - 28
The Blackhawks dropped their final two games last week and saw this trend continue in Week 17. They began the week with a 4-3 shootout loss to the Wild, before dropping their final two games against the Penguins and Blue Jackets, both in regulation. This brings their overall record to 21-25-9.
Over their last 10 games, the Blackhawks have posted a rough 2-6-2 record. Connor Bedard has remained one of the few bright spots on this roster, netting two goals and tacking on two helpers this week.
No. 29 - St. Louis Blues
Last Week Ranking - 30
The Blues saw their slide continue on Tuesday, falling to the Dallas Stars (4-3). However, they would snap their skid with an impressive 5-4 victory over the Panthers on Thursday. Unfortunately, they were unable to string together a win streak, as they lost to the surging Blue Jackets on Saturday (5-3).
Over their last seven games, the Blues have won just one contest. Given their placement in the standings, lead forwards Jordan Kyrou and Robert Thomas are emerging as top trade candidates ahead of the trade deadline.
No. 28 - Calgary Flames
Last Week Ranking - 29
The Flames had a three-game slate and would post a modest 1-1-1 record. They began the week with an overtime loss to the Ducks (4-3) and would take a tough 4-1 loss to the Wild on Thursday night. However, they would enter the win column on Saturday evening against the San Jose Sharks (3-2).
Forward Morgan Fort sparked much of the offense this week, scoring two goals and adding a helper. The Flames carry a 4-4-2 record over their last 10 games and remain near the bottom of our rankings.
No. 27 - Winnipeg Jets
Last Week Ranking - 27
The Jets strung together two victories this week, which keeps them towards the top of the "bottom tier" in our rankings. They began Week 17, defeating the New Jersey Devils (4-3) on Tuesday night. While they fell to the potent Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday, they rebounded well on the back half of their Florida trip, taking down the Panthers (2-1) on Saturday.
They have now picked up at least one point in eight of their last 10 games, with five of them being victories. They enter Week 18 holding a 22-25-7 record.
No. 26 - Nashville Predators
Last Week Ranking - 26
The Predators continue to stack points and remain within reach of the bottom teams in the current Western Playoff picture. This week, they posted a 1-0-2 record, with their lone victory coming on Saturday night against the New York Islanders. Earlier in the week, they fell to the Bruins and Devils in overtime.
They now carry a solid 5-3-2 record over their last 10 games and a cumulative 25-23-6 record. Top winger Filip Forsberg led the scoring in Nashville this week, scoring three goals across these three games.

No. 25 - Toronto Maple Leafs
Last Week Ranking - 18
The Leafs saw their losing streak reach six games when they dropped their opening games of the week to the Buffalo Sabres (7-4) and the Seattle Kraken (5-2). However, they were able to pick up a much-needed victory over the Canucks (3-2) in a shootout on Saturday evening.
They will spend next week on the back half of their western trip before the Olympic break (facing the Flames and Canada) in Alberta, Canada. The Leafs have won just two of their last 10 games and dropped six in regulation. They are quickly falling out of the Eastern playoff picture and sliding down our rankings.
No. 24 - Philadelphia Flyers
Last Week Ranking - 17
The Flyers ended last week with a massive victory over the Avalanche, which ended the lengthy skid. However, they were unable to build on that, as they dropped all four games this week, with three of the losses coming in regulation. They were able to earn a point in their last game of the week on Saturday, in an overtime loss to the Kings.
The Flyers have taken a dive in our rankings over the past few weeks, holding an underwhelming 2-6-2 record over their last 10 contests. The Flyers now sit behind the Blue Jackets and Capitals in the Metropolitan Division.
No. 23 - New Jersey Devils
Last Week Ranking - 21
The Devils continued their slide in Week 17, posting a 1-2 record. They earned their lone victory against the Nashville Predators on Thursday. Their losses came against the Winnipeg Jets and the Ottawa Senators, with a combined record of 8-4.
Over his last five games, Jacob Markstrom has posted a rough .891% SV% with a modest 2.81 GAA. The Devils remain in the middle of the Eastern logjam, sitting with 58 points.
No. 22 - Washington Capitals
Last Week Ranking - 22
The Capitals concluded their trip out West on Tuesday with a tough 5-1 loss to the surging Kraken. They returned East on Thursday and got back in the win column, defeating the Red Wings (4-3) in overtime, and would take down the Hurricanes by the same score in overtime on Saturday.
Washington remains an inconsistent club, carrying a 4-5-1 record (over their last 10) into the final week before the Olympic Break. They carry an overall 27-22-7.
No. 21 - Ottawa Senators
Last Week Ranking - 25
The Senators had a short two-game slate this week and took care of business, picking up all four points. They ended the week with a rather impressive 5-2 victory over the Colorado Avalanche. Then on Saturday, they stayed hot, taking down the Devils (4-1) to conclude their perfect week.
Brady Tkachuk and Tim Stützle led the scoring this week, combining for eight total points. Netminder Linus Ullmark made his return to the lineup on Saturday night and stopped 26 of the 27 shots he saw, which is an excellent sign for this club as they enter the second half.
No. 20 - San Jose Sharks
Last Week Ranking - 16
The Sharks spent Week 17 on the road as they traveled to Western Canada to face the Canucks, Oilers, and Flames. They began the week with a strong 5-2 victory over the lowly Canucks, but saw the fortunes flip over the back half. They fell to the Oilers in a 4-3 overtime loss and ended the week with a regulation loss to the Flames.
San Jose now sits with a modest 5-4-1 record over their last 10. They remain in lockstep with their division rivals (the Kings and Ducks) and will look to snap this skid with a favorable matchup on Monday against the Blackhawks. While Celebrini has taken most of the headlines, fellow budding star Will Smith led the way this week, scoring two goals and adding three helpers.

No. 19 - Los Angeles Kings
Last Week Ranking - 20
The Kings continue to sit near the middle of the pack entering the Olympic break. This week, the Kings posted a 2-1-1 record. Their lone regulation loss came at the hands of the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday, while their overtime loss came against the Hurricanes. They took down the Flyers and Red Wings to earn their victories.
They now sit just above the Sharks and Ducks in the overall league rankings but carry a modest 4-2-4 record over their last 10 contests.
No. 18 - Florida Panthers
Last Week Ranking - 15
The reigning champions carried a three-game winning streak into the new week but saw their stride quickly turn into a slump. This week, the Panthers lost much of the ground they really made up in the Eastern standings, as they dropped all three contests in regulation. They suffered losses to the Mammoth, Blues, and Jets by a combined 9-8 score.
They carry a 5-5 record over their last 10 into their final stretch before the Olympic break, when they will face three Atlantic Division rivals: the Sabres, Bruins, and Lightning.
No. 17 - Seattle Kraken
Last Week Ranking - 24
The Kraken concluded last week with a crucial 4-2 victory over the Devils and stayed hot in Week 17, picking up all six possible points. This week, the Kraken took down the Capitals, Maple Leafs, and Golden Knights by a combined score of 13-5. Center Jared McCann did most of the heavy lifting this week, scoring four goals and tallying seven points.
This brings them to a solid 26-19-9 record and an impressive 5- 4- 1 record over their last 10. The Kraken will look to stay hot against the Ducks on Tuesday night in a critical Pacific Division showdown.
No. 16 - Anaheim Ducks
Last Week Ranking - 19
While the Ducks saw their seven-game win streak snapped at the start of the week, they remain near the top half of our rankings. This week, they fell to the Edmonton Oilers (7-4) and the Vancouver Canucks (2-0) but were able to get back in the win column on Sunday night, taking down the Golden Knights.
Over their last 10, they still carry an elite 8-2 record and have jumped the Kings and Sharks in the standings. On Sunday, veteran forward Chris Kreider led the way, scoring two goals, pushing his season total to 19.
No. 15 - Columbus Blue Jackets
Last Week Ranking - 23
The Blue Jackets concluded last week on a two-game winning streak and pushed this total to five after Week 17. They began the week with a 5-3 victory over their division rival, the Philadelphia Flyers, and would then take down the Blackhawks and Blues on Friday and Saturday. The Blue Jackets have looked like a much-improved squad with Rick Bowness taking over head coaching duties.
They carry a stellar 9-1 record over their last 10 and have catapulted themselves back into the Eastern playoff race. After weeks of sitting far from the Capitals and Flyers, they have now jumped both on the standings and are nearing the Islanders.
No. 14 - Utah Mammoth
Last Week Ranking - 14
The Mammoth were one of our biggest risers last week, but were unable to make another jump forward in Week 17. The Mammoth began the week with a tough 2-0 loss to the Eastern heavyweight Lightning before bouncing back well in Sunrise, taking down the Panthers. They concluded their week with two straight losses to two top-heavy clubs, the Hurricanes and Stars.
Despite the brief skid this week, they still boast a strong 6-3-1 record over their last 10 and hold a solid 28-23-4 record.
No. 13 - Edmonton Oilers
Last Week Ranking - 13
The Oilers capped off last week with a crucial 6-5 victory over the Capitals and stayed hot to open Week 17, taking down the Ducks (7-4) on Monday evening and then the Sharks (4-3) in overtime on Thursday. However, their week would end with a tough 7-3 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Saturday.
The Oilers continue to climb the Pacific Division and now sit with a 28-20-8 record, tied with the Golden Knights at the top of the division. Center Leon Draisaitl led the way this week for the Oilers, scoring two goals and adding an impressive six helpers.

No. 12 - New York Islanders
Last Week Ranking - 12
After ending last week on a brief two-game side, the Islanders wasted little time finding their footing in Week 17. They began the week with three-straight victories, taking down the Flyers (4-0) and the New York Rangers twice (5-2) and (2-1). However, they saw their win streak snapped by the Predators on Saturday night.
While the Penguins have jumped them in the standings, they remain locked into the No. 3 spot in the Metropolitan Division. Over his last six outings, Ilya Sorokin has posted a 4-2 record with an elite 1.85 GAA and a .9375 SV%, and has established himself as the clear favorite for the Vezina Trophy.
No. 11 - Vegas Golden Knights
Last Week Ranking - 5
After taking a step forward last week, the Golden Knights took a prominent fall in our rankings following a disappointing showing in Week 17. They began the week with an overtime loss to the Canadiens and a shootout loss to the Stars, but would then lose their final two games (Kraken and Ducks) in regulation.
They now hold a modest 3-5-2 record over their last 10 and are quickly losing ground in the Pacific Division. Since returning from injury in mid-January, netminder Adin Hill has struggled, holding a 3.98 GAA with a .837% SV%.
No. 10 - Dallas Stars
Last Week Ranking - 11
The Stars were in need of a productive week and picked up all six possible points over the three games. Dallas took down the Blues, Golden Knights, and Mammoth all in regulation by a combined score of 12-9. Veteran forward Matt Duchene did much of the heavy lifting on the offense, scoring four of these goals.
This win streak has now brought them to a solid 6-4 record over their last 10. They now sit just one point behind the Minnesota Wild for the No.2 seed in the Central Division.
No. 9 - Boston Bruins
Last Week Ranking - 9
The Bruins had a busy four-game slate but continued to hold their ground, picking up six of the eight possible points. They opened the week with an overtime loss to the Rangers, but would take down the Predators and Flyers in the middle of the week. On Sunday, they fell to the Lightning in a thrilling shooting in the Stadium Series.
Despite taking two losses, they have still won seven of their last 10 games and have dropped only one in regulation. The Bruins sit within striking distance of the No. 2/No. 3 spots in the Atlantic Division. Morgan Geekie continued his breakout campaign, as he scored another four goals this week, increasing his season total to 32.
No. 8 - Detroit Red Wings
Last Week Ranking - 4
The Red Wings took a slight step back in our rankings. Following a dominant stretch over the past month, the Wings dropped all three games in Week 17 and head into the final week before the Olympic break in a bit of a skid. They fell to the Los Angeles Kings (3-1) on Tuesday and would end the week with a 4- 3 overtime loss to the Capitals and a rough 5-0 shutout loss to the Avalanche on Saturday afternoon.
The Wings now carry a slightly worse 5-3-2 record over their last 10 contests. They will have a tough task awaiting them in the new week, facing the same Avalanche on Monday night before wrapping up the first half with a tilt in Utah on Wednesday.
No. 7 - Montreal Canadiens
Last Week Ranking - 10
Montreal got itself back on track in Week 17 following a two-game losing skid to close out Week 16. They played in three games and picked up all six points, taking down the Golden Knights (3-2 OT), the Avalanche (7-3), and the Sabres (4-2). Nick Suzuki led the team in scoring this week, netting five points.
Over the last 10, the Canadiens have led a strong 6-3-1 record. The Canadiens will look to extend this streak before the Olympic break when they face the Minnesota Wild and the Winnipeg Jets for the remainder of their road trip.
No. 6 - Pittsburgh Penguins
Last Week Ranking - 8
The Penguins only had a two-game slate this week as they returned home from a lengthy trip in Western Canada. The Penguins continue to roll, extending their winning streak to six games following victories over the Blackhawks (6-2) and the Rangers (6-5). They now sit in sole possession of the No. 2 spot in the Metropolitan Division and are nearing the Hurricanes for the top seed.
Anthony Mantha has continued to be a pleasant surprise for the black and gold as he scored his 19th goal and added his 21st helper of the season this week. Even though Stuart Skinner stumbled on Saturday, he continued to get himself in the win column, picking up his eighth victory over his last nine games.

No. 5 - Minnesota Wild
Last Week Ranking - 7
Like the Stars, the Wild were able to snap their inconsistent streak and post a perfect 3-0 record in Week 17. They began the week with a 4-3 shootout victory over the Blackhawks but concluded with two regulation victories, over the Flames and Oilers. This six-point effort brings them to a 32-14-10 record and the second-most points in the sport.
Following his slow offensive skid, Kirill Kaprizov has been the catalyst of the Minnesota offense. Over his last eight games, the star winger has tallied 15 points, with five of them being goals.
No. 4 - Buffalo Sabres
Last Week Ranking - 6
The Sabres continued their surge and remain near the top of our rankings. They ended last week on a three-game winning streak and pushed it to five games following a victory on Tuesday (7-4) against the Maple Leafs and a victory over the Kings on Thursday (4-1). However, they saw their hot streak snapped by the Canadiens (4-2) on Saturday.
Despite the loss, the Sabres have posted an elite 7-2-1 record over their last 10 and are now within striking distance of the Red Wings and Canadiens for the No. 2 and No. 3 spots in the division. Former first overall pick Rasmus Dahlin led the way this week, tallying points, including a career-best five-point night during their victory over the Leafs.
No. 3 - Carolina Hurricanes
Last Week Ranking - 3
The Hurricanes posted a 2-0-1 record over their three-game slate and remain at the top of the Metropolitan Division. They began the week with a 5-4 victory over the red-hot Mammoth before falling to the Capitals (4-3) in overtime. They concluded the week with a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings in overtime.
The Canes have now lost only one game in regulation over their last 10 contests and hold an overall 6-1-3 record over this stretch. They remain one of the top favorites to come out of the Eastern Conference.
No. 2- Colorado Avalanche
Last Week Ranking - 1
The Avalanche no longer look like the super team they did early in the season, but they remain locked into a top-2 spot on our rankings. They began Week 17 with two regulation losses, falling to the Senators (5-2) and the Canadiens (7-3). However, they rebounded quite well on Saturday, taking down the high-flying Wings in a commanding 5-0 victory.
Netminder Mackenzie Blackwood led the way in this contest, stopping all 28 shots he saw. Forward Brock Nelson has continued his scoring binge, netting seven goals and adding four helpers over his last nine contests.

No. 1 - Tampa Bay Lightning
Last Week Ranking - 2
We have a new No. 1. Even though the Avalanche still holds more total points, the Lightning have been far more impressive as of late and deserve to enter Week 18 in the No. 1 position. This week, the Lightning continued to roll, picking up all six points over their three games. They began the week with two regulation victories over the Mammoth and Jets and concluded with a shootout victory over the Bruins in the Stadium Series.
They have now won eight of their last 10 and hold a stellar 8-1-1 record during this stretch. On Sunday, they welcomed back star defenseman Victor Hedman, who will make this team even stronger in the second half. The Lightning have emerged as the favorites in the East and should be in the same conversation as the Avalanche.
