After a victory over a top-15 Missouri team, Ty Simpson remains at No. 1 in the ranks.

We also had a battle of elite contenders in Eugene, and one of them prevailed victorious.

Top 10 College Football Quarterbacks for Week 8

Ty Simpson, Alabama

Simpson had to remain at No. 1. He has ice in his veins, and on third or fourth down, there is no one in college you would rather have behind center.

After struggling in Week 1 to find receivers on time, Simpson has become quicker with his decision-making. This has led him and the Crimson Tide to the top of the SEC and to become a favorite for the National Championship.

In a 27-24 win Saturday against Missouri, Simpson threw for 200 yards on 23-of-31 passing with three touchdowns.

Simpson ran the ball 10 times on Saturday, with four of those being sacked by the Missouri defense. The other six were plays in which Simpson made something happen on either third or fourth down to keep drives alive. These were the key to the victory by Alabama as it kept Beau Pribula and the Tigers' offense on the sideline. It also let Jam Miller wear down the Tigers' defensive line and keep their defense guessing.

Miller, who was injured at the end of the game, might miss some time. If he does, it will fall even more on the shoulders of Simpson to keep Alabama on the same track. With a good offensive line and a lethal set of receivers, he can manage it.

Fernando Mendoza, Indiana

1,423 yards does not seem like a ton of yards for Mendoza. You are right. Indiana has been dominating teams in 2025. This is great for the team but less so for stat chasers.

Even against a top 10 Illinois, Mendoza left early with the Hoosiers winning 63-10. He also had a pick-six in Saturday’s showdown in Eugene against the Oregon Ducks. But this was all he has done wrong as he has 17 touchdown passes to only three INT and has Indiana at No.3 in the AP Poll. No, not in basketball. This is the highest rank for the Hoosiers in more than 75 years.

What was supposed to be a hard game against Penn State in a few weeks now looks easy. The Nittany Lions fired coach James Franklin and will also be without starting QB Drew Allar. Depending on the line of that game, Indiana will be a double-digit favorite in all the remaining games. If they can avoid any down games, their next challenge will come in the Big Ten title game against Ohio State. Either way, Mendoza and the Hoosiers are all but guaranteed a trip to the playoffs.

Dante Moore, Oregon

Moore may be third this week, but it is only due to his Oregon Ducks losing to No. 2 on this list, Fernando Mendoza, on Saturday.

While the game ended as a 10-point Indiana victory, the Hoosiers controlled this game from the second quarter on.

Oregon was able to get close after a pick-six from Mendoza, but Indiana continued to smoke it through the filter in winning the game 30-20.

Moore was under pressure all day, being sacked six times, and threw for just one touchdown and two INT. With just 186 yards, Moore could not find receivers, and Dan Lanning was unable to beat an Indiana team that many thought was a fraud. Expect the Ducks and Moore to get right Saturday as they travel to New Jersey to take on a Rutgers defense that has failed to meet a quarterback this year, which they did not want to give massive numbers to. Moore will be no different.

CJ Carr, Notre Dame

The red shirt Freshman and grandson of famed Michigan coach Lloyd Carr, CJ has shown a steady hand. Even after going 0-2 against Miami and Texas A&M, neither Carr nor Notre Dame panicked. The Irish under Carr have been piling up victories ever since.

This week, the Irish will welcome the Trojans of USC as another contender for this list in Jayden Maiava comes to South Bend.

After beating Michigan 31-13.

Carr has the benefit of having the best running back duo in the country in Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price. But even if they are not dealing, Carr can thrive. This was shown in the past two games, in which Carr finished with 342 passing yards against North Carolina State, just one week after needing only 189 yards in a win over Boise State.

Notre Dame must win out to make the playoffs. The way Carr has been playing, he is doing his part.

Carson Beck, Miami (FL)

Beck moved up these ranks in recent weeks. He was on bye in Week 7, and the only reason he dropped is due to Carr being added to the ranks after his continual progression in the Notre Dame offense.

Beck will return in Week 8 with a Friday night game against Jeff Brohm and Louisville. We will find out then if he is in the correct spot right here in the middle of the ranks.

Sawyer Robertson, Baylor

Robertson and the Bears were on their bye this week. Getting ready to take on Josh Hoover and the TCU Horned Frogs on Saturday. While others moved around him, Robertson stayed static, and we will see how he performs against TCU on Saturday.

Beau Pribula, Missouri

Many of the quarterbacks in the rankings faced their toughest tests of the season in Week 7. Pribula was no different.

Alabama went into Columbia and walked out with a victory. This was not domination, and Alabama needed to perform right up until the final second. This is a statement on how good Eli Drinkwitz made the Tigers. It also makes a statement on how good Pribula has been and continues to be for the team.

16-of-28 passing for 162 yards with two touchdowns and two INT does not seem like a good game. It isn’t. But despite being sacked twice, Pribula still rushed the ball for 61 yards. Much of this was avoiding even more sacks as he was able to escape and keep Missouri from getting dismantled. Missouri will have another test for its offense on Saturday as it takes on the Auburn Tigers. Pribula will need to show his escape abilities if Missouri wants to remain once again in contention for the playoffs.

Luke Altmyer, Illinois

Altmyer, who is still the only player on this list with a passing, rushing, and receiving touchdown, is coming off a difficult game against Ohio State. The Buckeyes' elite defense held the Illini to 16 points while holding Altmyer to 248 yards, one touchdown, and one INT on 30-of-44 passing. On the bright side, Illinois became the first opponent of the season to score inside the red zone against Ohio State. This was a difficult game all around, and not much can be taken in terms of Altmyer. Easier games are ahead, and he could rise again if Altmyer returns to form.

Josh Hoover, TCU

Hoover has been slipping a bit in recent weeks.

This past week in Manhattan against Kansas State, Hoover had 376 yards, three touchdowns, and two INT. But it took him 47 pass attempts to get there. This was against a Wildcats team that has looked lifeless so far in 2025. Not being able to carve up the Wildcats’ defense shows a bit of regression. Should he ball out against Baylor in what will be a shootout on Saturday, he might continue his roller coaster trip through the season. If he cannot do so, he might be out of the ranks for good.

Demond Williams Jr., Washington

Washington has been better than expected in 2025. A comeback road win over Maryland and a home win over Rutgers have given them the answer to being defeated 24-6 against Ohio State. The Buckeyes are on a different level, and this result was not a surprise. But it was the job of Jedd Fisch not to let this deter the season. Thus far, he has done so. Washington and Williams will face another challenge this week as they head to The Big House to take on Michigan.

With 1,628 yards and 10 touchdowns to only one INT, Williams has been efficient in 2025 and has avoided the turnover pitfall that some young starters find.

Since the loss to Ohio State, Williams has thrown for 677 yards, four touchdowns, and one INT on 49-of-68 passing. The Michigan defense is coming off its worst performance of the year against USC. Returning home, they will look to rebound. It will be up to Williams to make sure the Huskies continue their solid season.

Trinidad Chambliss, Ole Miss

Lane Kiffin has seemed to find another quarterback. While his offense is not conducive to NFL success, it is a great scheme for college greatness. Chambliss might be the next player to realize this.

After previous elite talent Austin Simmons left injured against Arkansas in Week 3, Chambliss stepped in and performed well enough to win the game 41-35. He also played well enough to gain the next start against Tulane. His performance against the Green Wave left Kiffin no choice but to name him the permanent starter. While this means he will certainly lose Simmons this offseason, turning to his Ferris State transfer has allowed the Rebels to remain undefeated heading into their biggest challenge yet. A game Saturday against Georgia in Athens.

Chambliss will be forced to deliver once again if Ole Miss wants to beat the Bulldogs for a second straight season. Simmons was the star of the last win. Can it be Chambliss this time? If so, he could be heading into the ranks next week. Instead of being the bonus selection.
