College Football Playoff Could Expand to 24 Teams
College Football Playoff executives have triggered a 30-day negotiating window with ESPN as 24-team playoff talks have heated up, per Yahoo's Ross Dellenger. While the window is triggered, this does not mean that there is a decision on whether or not the field will expand to 24 teams. The CFP put out a statement, saying, "The CFP has decided to move forward in its evaluation of potential Playoff expansion to 24 teams by beginning a media rights discussion with ESPN. This does not represent a decision or commitment to expand, but rather an opportunity to engage with ESPN and gather additional information to help determine a path forward. The CFP will provide additional updates when appropriate." It does feel inevitable that the field will expand and that it is a matter of when, not if.
