Recent Fantasy Football Rookie Tight End News

Colston Loveland, Chicago Bears

Chicago Bears tight end Colston Loveland has been making a big splash in training camp. The first-round rookie took first-team reps during Tuesday's 11-on-11 drills. Loveland has been impressive not just on the field, but off the field as well. Recently, head coach Ben Johnson praised Loveland by saying he's thinking more like a quarterback, which is what you want from your skilled players.

He continued by saying it's impressive to see Loveland already at this level mentally. The rookie tight end will still have to compete with Cole Kmet for playing time in Chicago. Despite that, Loveland should still see consistent playing time with the way he's looking early in camp.

Tyler Warren, Indianapolis Colts

Indianapolis Colts tight end Tyler Warren caught all three of his targets for 40 yards in a 24-16 preseason loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday. Warren got off to a hot start in the game, catching all three of his passes in the first quarter, including a 23-yard reception down the middle of the field to help set the Colts up for a 33-yard field goal at the end of the quarter.

He came as advertised after the Colts used the 14th overall pick on Warren in the 2025 NFL draft, hauling in all three of his targets and showing physicality as a runner after the catch. While the Colts' quarterback situation is a bit concerning, Warren should settle in as a solid TE2 in fantasy in his rookie year. He will now gear up to face off against the Green Bay Packers in his team's second preseason contest, which is scheduled for next Saturday.

Terrance Ferguson, Los Angeles Rams

Los Angeles Rams tight end Terrance Ferguson (groin) was unable to participate in practice on Saturday. Head coach Sean McVay has downplayed the severity of the issue, but he also said Ferguson has no timetable to return. This is certainly frustrating given Ferguson was reportedly looking good during camp. The expectation was that Ferguson could be an immediate impact player after being selected in the second round of this year's draft.

Tyler Higbee figures to continue working as the No. 1 while Colby Parkinson gets extra snaps as the backup. This injury shouldn't impact Ferguson's status in dynasty leagues, but he might lose steam in re-draft formats.

Gunnar Helm, Tennessee Titans

Tennessee Titans tight end Gunnar Helm was listed as the team's second tight end on the first unofficial depth chart, behind only Chig Okonkwo and ahead of Josh Whyle, who was the team's second tight end last year. The Titans drafted Helm out of Texas with the No. 120 pick in the fourth round of the NFL Draft after he logged 60 catches for 786 yards and seven touchdowns in Texas's quick passing game.

Helm had a bad combine, potentially due to injury, but he has earned playing time with a strong training camp and could become a favorite target for rookie quarterback Cam Ward. Helm and the Titans start preseason on Saturday in Tampa Bay, and it will be important to see exactly how the tight end work is divided going into Week 1 against the Broncos.

Mason Taylor, New York Jets

New York Jets rookie tight end Mason Taylor (ankle) has been diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain, according to Connor Hughes of SNY. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as he could be sidelined for at least the opening game of the preseason and potentially longer, given the severity. The Jets selected the former LSU Tiger in the second round (42nd overall) in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Taylor tallied a career-high 546 yards on 55 receptions during his final season at LSU in 2024. For the time being, Jeremy Ruckert and Stone Smartt should continue to see most of the starting opportunities.

Taylor appears to have a path to earning the starting role, given the lack of production on the depth chart. However, this injury could make it difficult for Taylor to earn key reps during training camp. For now, fantasy managers should view him as a dynasty stash and only a late-round option in deeper, 14+ team redraft leagues.

Harold Fannin, Cleveland Browns

Cleveland Browns rookie tight end Harold Fannin Jr. has "already played his way into significant snaps with the No. 1 offense," according to Zac Jackson of The Athletic. A third-round pick out of Bowling Green, Fannin Jr. led FBS in receptions (117) and receiving yards (1,555) while scoring 11 total touchdowns in his final collegiate season.

The Browns have established veteran David Njoku atop their tight end depth chart, but Jackson writes that Fannin Jr. is "going to play a role" as a rookie. The Browns could deploy both of their tight ends on the field together, but it's also possible that Fannin Jr. eats into Njoku's snaps and targets. Fannin Jr.'s deployment is something to monitor throughout the preseason, both for 2025 and beyond.

Oronde Gadsden II, Los Angeles Chargers

Los Angeles Chargers rookie tight end Oronde Gadsden is turning heads in training camp and building momentum as a potential breakout candidate. After impressing during rookie OTAs, Gadsden has carried that energy into camp, establishing early chemistry with quarterback Justin Herbert.

Though he enters a crowded tight end room alongside veterans Will Dissly and Tyler Conklin, Gadsden continues to separate himself with reliable hands and strong route running. The former Syracuse standout offers intriguing upside in deeper fantasy formats and is a name to watch as the preseason unfolds, especially in tight-end-premium or dynasty leagues.
