Week 10 Deeper Waiver Wire Pickups: Standard Leagues

Matt Terelle brings you his sleepers at quarterback, running back, wide receiver, tight end and defense/special teams for Week 10.

What's up RotoBallers. Welcome to my deeper standard league sleepers column for Week 10 of the NFL season. In this weekly article we are going to take a look at some deeper waiver wire options for standard leagues, who could help out your team in this upcoming week.

For reference's sake, we are looking at standard scoring leagues and will be using ownership percentage data from Fleaflicker. In order to qualify as a deep sleeper, a player must be 20% owned or less.

Let's get to the picks!

Quarterback

Case Keenum (LAR) @ New York Jets

(Ownership: 14%)

Keenum has served as a solid option as a second quarterback in two-quarterback leagues this season, passing for 2,004 yards and nine touchdowns through eight games. While he's tougher to trust in leagues which require just one quarterback, he can theoretically be used in that capacity if you are desperate for a quarterback in Week 10. Keenum and Kenny Britt have developed a nice chemistry together as of late and that should be able to continue against the Jets in Week 10.

The Rams have an extremely favorable matchup coming up against a Jets pass defense that is ranked just 31st in the league in DVOA according to Football Outsiders (before Week  9's action). Darrelle Revis is a shadow of the All-Pro player he used to be and the Jets secondary has followed his lead, coughing up huge games to opposing passing attacks this season.

Running Back

Peyton Barber (TB) vs. Chicago Bears

(Ownership: 15%)

Barber, a rookie out of Auburn, saw his heaviest workload of the season in Week 9 against the Falcons. Barber had 11 carries for 31 yards while adding four catches for 24 yards in the passing game. He did this while splitting work with Antone Smith. Smith injured his knee during the game and has since been lost for the year, joining Charles Sims, Jacquizz Rodgers, and Doug Martin on the sidelines. The dearth of options in Tampa Bay's backfield means Barber should see the lion's share of the carries in Week 10 against Chicago.

The Bears haven't been anything special against the run this year, ranking just 19th in DVOA. The Buccaneers' coaching staff has already mentioned that they would like to run more as a result of Jameis Winston's penchant for turnovers. The Bears are a team that Tampa Bay should be able to hang with, which should allow Tampa Bay to skew run-heavier than they did last week against the explosive Falcons. With a possible huge workload on tap for Barber, he's shaping up as a priority waiver add this week.

Wide Receiver

J.J. Nelson (ARI) vs. San Francisco 49ers

(Ownership: 16%)

Nelson is coming off his bye, but the week before that he posted a career game with eight catches for 79 yards and two touchdowns while operating as Carson Palmer's favorite target. Nelson's widespread availability across FleaFlicker is surprising as it appears he has surpassed Michael Floyd as the Cardinals' number three wide receiver on the depth chart.

The matchup against San Francisco is as good as it gets for the Arizona passing game in Week 10. The 49ers pass defense ranks 20th in the league in DVOA and is fresh off of allowing a 323-yard, three touchdown pasting by Drew Brees and the Saints. The speedy Nelson could be in line for a big role in the Arizona attack in the second half of the season.

Tight End

Lance Kendricks (LAR) @ New York Jets

(Ownership: 15%)

Kendricks has been flying under the fantasy radar this season, but he's quietly put together a productive three-game stretch for the Rams. Kendricks, over that span, has 19 catches for 179 yards and a touchdown as the Rams passing offense has started to show some signs of life as of late. It is clear that Kendricks has earned a sizable role in the Rams offense going forward as he has seen seven or more targets in four of his past five games played. The Jets pass defense, as mentioned above, has struggled to stop opposing passing games this season. Couple that with a tough New York run defense and there's a good chance we see extra passing attempts from the Rams in Week 10.

Defense/Special Teams

Jacksonville Jaguars (JAX) vs. Houston Texans

(Ownership: 10%)

The Jaguars pull a favorable home matchup against a struggling Houston offense in Week 10. Brock Osweiler has been extremely shaky in his first year as Houston's starter and that is a trend that should continue against a revamped Jaguars secondary which has played really well this season. Houston has been the sixth-most favorable matchup for opposing fantasy defenses this year, allowing 9.4 points per game in standard scoring leagues. This game has a rather low 42.5 point over/under and even though the Jags are one point home dogs, they should still be able to post a useful fantasy performance in Week 10.
