EPL DFS Goalies

Angus Gunn - DK $5.6K || FD $12

Opponent - vs Haiti

This slate is the first slate for the World Cup where Daily Fantasy managers will be forced to pay up at the goalie position. The value plays entail too much risk to punt at the position, unless truly trying to diversify the lineup. This leaves us with Scottish goalie Angus Gunn. The veteran has not been a household name in over a year after he transferred to Nottingham Forest following another very successful season with Norwich City in the Championship.

In 2024, when he was last relied on as a starter, he made 84 saves, conceded 42 goals, and recorded seven clean sheets in 35 starts for the Canaries. Furthermore, at the 2024 UEFA Euros, in three starts, Gunn made 12 saves and conceded seven goals. Considering Haiti’s lack of firepower, Gunn will need to keep a clean sheet to push past the value barrier, and it isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • Ugurcan Çakir (DK $5.2K || FD $11) vs. Australia
  • Yassine Bounou (DK $4.1K || FD $10) vs. Brazil

EPL DFS Forwards

Bariş Alper Yilmaz - DK $4.6K || FD $15

Opponent - vs. Australia

Bariş Alper Yilmaz needs to be a ‘LOCK’ regardless of the contest, whether GPP or CASH. Yilmaz is expected to spearhead Turkey’s attack, and he is under $5K on DraftKings. A few shots on target and he instantly hits value, and considering Turkey is projected to have possession for most of the match, his chances of seeing a ceiling performance are high.

For Galatasaray of the Süper Lig this past season, Yilmaz registered 12 goals and 16 assists in 49 matches in all competitions. Furthermore, in his 12 appearances–11 starts–in the UEFA Champions League, he produced one goal, one assist, 14 shots, 13 chances created, 32 crosses, five corners, 16 tackles, two interceptions, and seven clearances. He was not utilized the same way he will be with Turkey, though. Yilmaz played more as an attacking midfielder and winger for Galatasaray. Managers may not have a chance to win the slate if he is not rostered.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • Raphinha (DK $9.3K || FD $22) vs. Morocco
  • Lawrence Shankland (DK $8.1K || FD $14) vs. Haiti

EPL DFS Midfielders

John McGinn - DK $7.6K || FD $17

Opponent - vs. Haiti

The midfield position has a plethora of options, making it difficult to decide. Although it will most likely come down to which strikers you are rostering. John McGinn is considered a ‘value’ midfielder for this slate, clocking under $8K on DraftKings, despite being a heavy favorite. McGinn is considered a key player in Aston Villa’s attack in the English Premier League. He will be widely considered the same for Scotland. In 43 appearances–37 starts–last season for Aston Villa in all competitions, McGinn generated ten goals, six assists, 41 shots, 51 chances created, 116 crosses, 50 corners, 38 tackles, 16 interceptions, and 20 clearances.

Haiti struggled in their four pre-World Cup fixtures, with a record of 1-1-2. They lost 1-0 to Tunisia, drew 1-1 with Iceland, beat New Zealand 4-0, and lost 2-1 to Peru. With McGinn slotting on the wing in Scotland’s projected 4-4-2, he will have open-play value, as well as set piece value.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • Arda Güler (DK $10K || FD $18) vs. Australia
  • Ruben Providence (DK $6K || FD $12) vs. Scotland

EPL DFS Defenders

Ricardo Rodríguez - DK $3.9K || FD $13

Opponent - vs. Qatar

The defender position may be just as hard, if not harder, to make a decision for due to the amount of options available. However, Ricardo Rodríguez simply offers too much value at his given salary. The Swiss veteran may not have the vital role on set pieces he once had, but he still has the capability of producing on both ends of the pitch and he is projected to do just that. Qatar may not be a superpower, but they have firepower and pace. Ricardo’s night will not be easy, although it will offer him plenty of opportunity to reach and exceed value.

In 32 appearances and 25 starts in all competitions for Real Betis of La Liga, Rodríguez posted one assist, four shots, 11 chances created, 21 crosses, 33 tackles, 13 interceptions, 89 clearances, and three blocks.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • Andy Robertson (DK $6.9K || FD $14) vs. Haiti
  • Ferdi Kadioğlu (DK $4.2K || FD $12) vs. Bosnia & Herzegovina

Corner Takers

  • Qatar: Akram Afif/Ahmed Fathy
  • Switzerland: Granit Xhaka/Michel Aebischer/Ricardo Rodríguez
  • Brazil: Raphinha/Guimarães
  • Morocco: Azzedine Ounahi/Achraf Hakimi
  • Haiti: Ruben Providence
  • Scotland: John McGinn/Lewis Ferguson/Andy Robertson
  • Australia: Nestory Irankunda/Cristian Volpato
  • Turkey: Arda Güler/Hakan Çalhanoğlu
