Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Outlooks
Some of the top waiver wire names include Jack Leiter, Justin Crawford, Paul Sewald, Joey Wiemer, Parker Messick, and more. Read some of the waiver wire outlooks below:
Jack Leiter, SP, Texas Rangers
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jack Leiter allowed two earned runs, five hits, and one walk during Monday's 5-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. He also struck out eight batters and earned the win. It was an impressive season-opening outing from the young right-hander, who is looking to build off a breakout campaign in 2025, when he went 10-10 with a 3.86 ERA and 8.78 K/9 across 29 starts.
Now that he has established himself as a consistent rotation piece, he should rack up innings and become an intriguing starting pitching option for fantasy baseball managers. As it stands, he ranks #62 among starters in RotoBaller's latest fantasy baseball rankings. He's projected to return to the mound on Sunday, April 5, against the Cincinnati Reds. It'll be an exciting pitching matchup as Leiter toes the rubber opposite Chase Burns.
Justin Crawford, OF, Philadelphia Phillies
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Justin Crawford had the best game of his young career in his team's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday. Crawford went three-for-five with a trio of singles, including the game-winning RBI knock in the bottom of the 10th inning. Through his first 18 MLB plate appearances, Crawford is hitting .412 with an RBI and three runs scored.
The 22-year-old made his bones as an elite average hitter in the minors as well, slashing .334/.411/.452 with seven home runs, 47 RBI, 88 runs scored, and 46 stolen bases across 506 plate appearances at Triple-A in 2025. Power is the main question mark in Crawford's profile, and just one of his seven MLB hits has gone for extra bases so far. Still, if Crawford can continue to rack up base hits, he should start stealing bases at a high rate and could easily move up from the bottom of the Philadelphia batting order.
Paul Sewald, RP, Arizona Diamondbacks
Arizona Diamondbacks reliever Paul Sewald continued his strong start Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers, earning his second save of the season with a clean inning. Sewald struck out the side and has yet to allow a baserunner through 2 1/3 innings of work this year. His early dominance positions him for more opportunities as Arizona works to solidify its closer role.
Sewald saw limited innings last season in Detroit, but he has shown the ability to anchor the back end of a bullpen. The 35-year-old owns a 4.09 ERA and 1.14 WHIP across 398 career innings and is quickly building momentum in Arizona.
Joey Wiemer, OF, Washington Nationals
Washington Nationals outfielder Joey Wiemer is off to a scorching start to the 2026 season, recording two home runs and four RBI in his first eight plate appearances of the year. The 27-year-old right-handed hitter currently appears limited to a short-side platoon role, as he was out of the starting lineup for his team's matchup against Chicago Cubs right-hander Cade Horton on Saturday.
Still, Wiemer could force his way into everyday playing time in short order if he continues to rake. Wiemer logged just 61 MLB plate appearances in 2025 as a member of the Miami Marlins, hitting .236/.279/.436 with three home runs, 12 RBI, and seven runs scored. He struck out in 37.7% of his plate appearances and owns a career strikeout rate of 29.2% across 507 career trips to the plate in the big leagues.
Wiemer could easily regress to career norms over a more extended run of playing time, but he could be a player for deep-league fantasy managers to monitor early in 2026. The 27-year-old is worth an add as a streamer after slashing .588/.682/.1059 with two home runs and five RBI across the first five games of the season.
Parker Messick, SP, Cleveland Guardians
Cleveland Guardians left-handed pitching prospect Parker Messick should be viewed as a priority waiver wire pickup this week after his strong season debut. On Monday evening, the young southpaw was tasked to face the reigning two-time World Series Champions in Los Angeles.
However, Messick looked quite comfortable on the bump, logging six shutout frames. He surrendered just five hits and no walks. He struck out five hitters. Last season, the 25-year-old made his MLB debut and flashed similar upside over a short 39 2/3 inning stint, holding a 2.72 ERA with a 1.31 WHIP.
Last summer, Messick spent most of his campaign with Triple-A Columbus, where he held a 3.47 ERA with a 119:42 K:BB. Given his impressive showing against the game's top lineup, Messick should be viewed as a worthy starting pitcher target on the waiver wire.
