FanDuel NBA DFS Lineup Picks (2/24/21): Daily Fantasy Basketball Advice

Shane McNichol highlights the top FanDuel NBA DFS lineup picks for 2/24/21, and a couple of sleepers to consider while building daily rosters.

Wednesday offers a full slate of NBA games for DFS players to feast upon, but it concludes with one of the best games on the NBA calendar to date. After eight games earlier in the night, the Lakers and Jazz will tip-off in Utah.

The Jazz boast the league’s best record and have lost just once all month. LeBron James will lead a weary Lakers squad, without Anthony Davis, into Salt Lake City for what could be a Western Conference Finals preview.

FanDuel DFS Guards

Malcolm Brogdon, PG – IND vs GS ($8,200)

Calls for Brogdon to be included in the All-Star Game grew of late, with the fourth-year guard excelling in recent games. His last two games have been masterpieces, with Brogdon posting 27.5 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 assists per game in that stretch.

After a four-game stretch earlier this month in which he shot just 25 percent from outside the arc, Brogdon’s shooting has rebounded to its typically reliable levels. Facing the fast-paced Warriors will give the Pacers guard plenty of chances to score, dish assists, and nab long rebounds from the 3-point focused Golden State lineup.

Fred Vanvleet, SG – TOR @ MIA ($8,200)

Some matchups just make sense on paper and in practice. The Heat allow more 3-point attempts per 100 possessions than any other team in the NBA. VanVleet takes nearly nine attempts from long range, which easily leads Toronto. With Kyle Lowry still banged up with an injured thumb, there’s added offensive pressure on VanVleet.

In each his last five games, VanVleet has taken more than 15 shot attempts, averaging a total of 18.7 field goal attempts in that stretch. Since his 54 point outburst to start this month, VanVleet has shot a tad below his season and career averages, leaving him primed for another big night.

Hamidou Diallo, PG – OKC vs SA ($5,300)

In his third season with the Thunder, Diallo has blossomed with more minutes available. He’s nearly doubled his scoring over last year and upped his assists from just 0.8 per game to 2.5 per night. As this season settled in, he made a name for himself in the OKC rotation, scoring in double-figures in 12 straight games from late-January to mid-February.

He had cooled off since then, but there’s no better time for him to jump out of a slump than against a Spurs team allowing the most fantasy points to point guards.

FanDuel DFS Forwards

Jimmy Butler, SF – MIA vs TOR ($9,200)

Butler’s game has changed and sharpened since joining the Heat two summers ago. Notably, he’s been attacking contact more frequently, earning more trips to the free throw line as a member of the Heat than he had in any of his three previous stops. His free throw rate with Miami is noticeably higher than previously in his career, while his 3-point shooting has essentially disappeared.

Butler has only taken 25 outside shots all season but earns 8.2 foul shots per game. Against Toronto, that’s huge. The Raptors allow the highest free throw rate in the NBA and the third most free throws per game.

Saddiq Bey, SF – DET @ NO ($5,300)

Opportunity is the name of the game for Bey. Ever since Blake Griffin was sent away from the Pistons as they plan for his future, young players like Bey have seen added minutes and shots. The rookie swingman has seen his numbers climb in recent weeks. In Bey’s last seven games, he’s averaged 15.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 9.1 field goal attempts per game.

Perhaps most importantly, Bey has been notching more than 28 minutes per game in that time. As he continues to solidify himself in the Detroit lineup, he’ll have more nights with high scoring totals. Against a Pelicans team that allows the most 3-point makes per game to opponents, he should be ready to fire.

Zion Williamson, PF – NO vs DET ($8,500)

After a bit of a honeymoon period, it seems that Stan Van Gundy has figured out how dangerous Zion Williamson can be on an NBA court. The first-year Pelicans coach has his young power forward playing his best basketball of late, which should continue Wednesday against Detroit.

In his last nine games, Williamson is averaging 28.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.3 assists. He has been more aggressive attacking the rim of late. In his last three outings, Zion Williamson has taken 35 free throws, courtesy of overmatched defenders.

 

FanDuel DFS Centers 

Marc Gasol, C – LAL @ UTAH ($4,500)

In the four games since Anthony Davis suffered an injury, Gasol has had his most productive stretch of the season. During that string of games, Gasol is playing more minutes, doubling his scoring on the season, and increasing his assists and rebounds.

Against perennial Defensive Player of the Year candidate Rudy Gobert, the aging Gasol may seem like an odd selection. Yet due to Utah’s defensive philosophy, there’s value in the Lakers center. No team forces more 2-point attempts per game or per 100 possessions that Utah. The Jazz are committed to running opponents off the 3-point line and into Gobert in the paint.

That often opens opportunities for the player Gobert is guarding and Gasol is smart enough and crafty enough to take advantage.
