The waiver wire isn't the only place to change the course of your team. The right trade can make or break your season. The key is to buy low on cold players and sell overachieving players whose values have skyrocketed.

While this is a well-known method, some owners still tend to overreact to a small sample size, so it's important to take advantage of those opportunities.

Fantasy Football Buy Low Candidates

Eddie Lacy (RB, GB)

Lacy jumped into an early bye week with 214 yards on the ground — the 22nd most of football — but his 71.3 yards per game rank 12th and his 5.0 yards per carry rank seventh among all backs. The fact that he has yet to carry the ball over the goal line after managing just three touchdowns in 2015 is concerning, but the 26-year-old scored 24 total touchdowns over his first two seasons in the league, and as the Packers’ offense continues to gel, the defensive pressure should fall more heavily on the passing game.

Perhaps Green Bay's toughest opponent — the undefeated Minnesota Vikings — don't appear on the schedule for another 11 weeks, and the upcoming matchups for the Packers (Giants, Cowboys, Bears, Falcons, Colts) are less than daunting. Lacy should be in the RB1 range going forward, and can likely be had for the price of an RB2.

Amari Cooper (WR, OAK)

Since posting 137 yards on six catches in Week 1, Cooper has been trending downwards. He hauled in five passes for just 48 yards in Week 4, and now has 318 yards on the season, but hasn’t scored a touchdown. He is one of just three receivers with at least 300 yards and no touchdowns in 2016. Cooper managed 1,070 yards as a rookie in 2015, catching six balls in the end zone.

So far this year, Michael Crabtree is tied for the league lead with four touchdowns (nine last year), but Cooper should get his fair share of red zone targets going forward. In the coming weeks, Oakland will play the Chargers, Chiefs, Jaguars and Buccaneers— four of the 14 teams with at least seven receiving touchdowns allowed. If Cooper’s owner has soured on 2016 being his breakout season, scoop him up and hope he starts getting looks in the end zone.

Odell Beckham (WR, NYG)

Beckham was widely drafted No. 2 overall, but has fallen out of the WR2 range over the first four weeks. He managed just 23 yards on three receptions in Week 4 against the Vikings, and now has just 303 yards on 22 catches without a score. Along with Cooper, Beckham is one of just three wideouts with at least 300 yards and no trips to the end zone. However, he began the 2015 season in a similarly slow manner, with 307 yards over his first four games — albeit with two touchdowns — before posting 1,143 yards with 11 TD over his final 11 games played.

The Giants draw the Packers and Ravens over the next two weeks. Green Bay has yielded 182 yards to Stefon Diggs and 205 yards to Marvin Jones over the last two games, and Baltimore has allowed three consecutive multi-touchdown games to wide receivers. Of course, Beckham may be a bit harder to pry away from his fantasy owner than someone like Cooper, but given his ability to take off and carry a team, he is worth acquiring no matter the cost.

Fantasy Football Sell High Candidates

Matt Jones (RB, WAS)

Jones blasted through the Browns’ defense on Sunday, totaling 117 yards and a touchdown on 22 rushes. It was just the second career 100-yard game for the 23-year-old, whose 24 touches were his most since coming into the league. This performance came against a porous Browns defense, but Jones was shut down by Pittsburgh in Week 1.

Jones is not a workhorse, so it can’t hurt to try to sell high before he has to face a Ravens defense that, outside of an 85-yard run by Isaiah Crowell, has allowed just 235 yards on the ground (58.74 yards per game) and just one rushing touchdown. Plus, in Week 6, Washington draws the Eagles, who have yielded 70.3 yards rushing per game— the third fewest in football.

Melvin Gordon (RB, SD)

Gordon sits among the top three fantasy backs so far, despite being 18th in rushing yards and 13th in receiving yards among running backs. He leads the NFL with six rushing touchdowns, finding the end zone at least once in each of his first four games this season. However, he has posted two consecutive games with fewer than 40 yards on the ground.

Following a two-touchdown showing against an easily penetrable Saints defense is a good time to sell high. Gordon’s fantasy production has been dependent on scoring touchdowns, and if those goal line carries start to appear less frequently, his value could rapidly decrease.

Will Fuller (WR, HOU)

Fuller took the NFL by storm, accumulating 100 yards over each of his first two career games. He caught seven passes for 81 yards and a touchdown in Week 4 against the Titans, but his fantasy performance was inflated by a punt return touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Fuller has quickly become a focal point of Houston’s passing attack, leading Texans receivers with 34 targets, and while that isn’t necessarily going to change, DeAndre Hopkins is likely to play a larger role going forward. Plus, not only will Fuller not take a punt to the house in most weeks, but his role as a home-run threat will inevitably yield games in which he is quiet and makes no impact on a fantasy team. Find an owner who loves to take chances on young players with upside, and ship off Fuller before he starts putting up the occasional goose egg— he plays Minnesota and Denver over the next three weeks.
