High-Confidence Strikeout Picks
All odds were current as of 9:00 AM
Chase Burns OVER 6.5 strikeouts (+100 BetMGM)
Burns has displayed nothing but massive arm talent since he was selected 2nd overall in the loaded 2024 draft. He debuted with an absurd 35.6% strikeout rate last season, and he isn't lagging too far behind that number this season.
The young righty boasts a 29.7% strkeout rate for the season, and it is all the way up at 37.1% over his last four starts. Impressively, the Phillies are the only team amongst those four matchups that owns a strikeout rate above league-average against right-handed pitching.
Chase Burns had another dominant start today against the Royals with 19 whiffs.

Tonight's matchup against the Padres includes a huge park upgrade for Burns, moving from his hitter-friendly home park to pitcher-friendly Petco Park.
The Padres grade out as one of the worst offenses in baseball this season, with an 87 wRC+ against right-handed pitching that is tied for second-worst with Boston. They have also struck out at a 23.3% clip against righties, which is the third-highest mark in baseball.
Zack Wheeler OVER 5.5 strikeouts (-115 Novig)
Wheeler was delayed to start this season after a blood clot, plus the dreaded "thoracic outlet syndrome" ended his season last year. The Phillies' star pitcher has seemingly recovered back to his elite form, as he owns a sparkling 2.31 ERA through eight starts.
The stud righty has cleared 5.5 strikeouts in three of his last four starts, with the only miss coming against the elite Dodgers offense. He has also cleared the line in five of eight starts overall this season, including in tough spots against high-contact teams like Cleveland and Atlanta.
Wheeler draws a tough matchup tonight, facing a Toronto team that owns the lowest strikeout rate in baseball against right-handed pitching. Despite their elite contact ability, Toronto grades out as just an average offense against righties (100 wRC+).
Wheeler has a deep arsenal of pitches that should help him to keep this average offense at bay, ultimately allowing him to work into the later innings and cross the threshold of 5.5 strikeouts.
