Robbie Anderson was unhappy with the Carolina Panthers during the 2022 NFL season, so he got himself traded to the Arizona Cardinals. Unfortunately, the fantasy football managers who rostered Anderson were the ones left unhappy.

Anderson was primed to have his fantasy value elevated once he became a member of pass-happy Kliff Kingsbury’s receiving corps, but instead he was one of the biggest busts in fantasy football. He never became an integral part of the passing attack and was stuck at the bottom of the depth chart. Then quarterback Kyler Murray tore his ACL to compound matters. In the end, Anderson gave fantasy managers seven receptions for 76 yards in his 10 games with the Cardinals. Those are numbers Miami’s Tyreek Hill could put up in a half.

So what does the fantasy future hold for Anderson heading into the 2023 NFL campaign? Will he remain a member of the Cardinals even though they fired Kingsbury and brought in defensive guru Jonathan Gannon to run the team? Here is the latest:

Will The Cardinals Release Robbie Anderson?

Yes, Anderson has indeed been released. The Cardinals are going to reshuffle their deck entering the 2023 season. They already have a new head coach and coaching staff.  There are rumors No. 1 WR DeAndre Hopkins is on the trade block. Murray might not be ready to return for Week 1. With all this going on, there was no reason to bring back Anderson at a hefty price tag when he performed like a No. 5 WR during his short stint with the organization.

Anderson will have suitors this offseason. The free-agent crop of receivers is arguably one of the worst in recent history, so teams starving for a deep threat will throw a few million Anderson’s way in the hopes that he still has his top-flight speed and that the Arizona experiment failed because of many factors beyond his control. The Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, Denver Broncos, and Indianapolis Colts are a handful of teams who have a need at the position and might cough up some cash so Anderson can be their No. 3 or No. 4 WR.

After back-to-back subpar seasons, Anderson will try to reclaim his old form with a new quarterback and offense.  It will be difficult for him to garner a multiyear contract, but a desperate team hoping he bounces back and has another 1,000-yard year in him will probably give him a one-year, $5 million deal if the weak wide receiver market forces them to. Keep an eye on where Anderson ends up this offseason and rank him on your September draft list accordingly. Who knows, maybe now changing his name to "Chosen" will change his fantasy value for the better.
