An FPL team preview, predictions, tips, and picks for the newly promoted teams, Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Southampton. RotoBaller's EPL fantasy football team previews for 2024-2025.

Welcome to the 2024-2025 Fantasy Premier League season, RotoBallers! The game has officially launched for the new season, and it's time to start preparing for another year of FPL. We will have you covered from the preseason in July until the final kick of the season in May and everything else that happens in between.

Our team previews continue with the newly promoted clubs: Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Southampton. Leicester City and Southampton make an instant comeback to the Premier League after having been relegated in the 2022-2023 season. Relegated in the 2001-2002 season and receiving back-to-back promotions in the Championship and Skybet League One, Ipswich Town returns to face the strongest teams in the Premier League. However, who are the best fantasy assets to consider among these sides?

The first deadline of the 2024-2025 Fantasy Premier League season is August 16 at 1:30 p.m. EDT, when Manchester United welcomes Fulham to open the campaign. FPL Team Previews: Leicester City

Finishing first in one of the most competitive leagues, Leicester City found its stride in late April 2024, securing six wins in eight games. A standout moment was its emphatic 5-0 victory against Southampton, where Abdul Fatawu (£5.5m) netted a hat trick. Leicester's attacking duo also impressed, with Jamie Vardy (£5.5m) leading the team as the top scorer with 18 goals, while Stephy Mavididi (£5.5m) contributed 12 goals and six assists.

Former midfield maestro Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (£6m) was pivotal for the Foxes last season, tallying 12 goals and 14 assists before his move to Chelsea. Now under new management with Steve Cooper replacing Enzo Maresca, Leicester fans are hopeful that Cooper can guide the team to Premier League survival.

 

Leicester City Stats In The Championship (2023-2024 season)

  • League Finish: First, 97 points
  • Most goals: Jamie Vardy, 18 goals
  • Most assists: Stephy Mavididi, 12 assists

 

Player to Watch: Stephy Mavididi

You've seen a glimpse of his exploits with 12 goals and six assists last season. Starting 42 out of 46 matches in the Championship, Stephy Mavididi (£5.5m) was crucial to Leicester's success. In recent preseason friendlies, the Frenchman has shown signs of returning to form, scoring in back-to-back games against Villarreal and Shrewsbury. Mavididi also created 72 chances last season and appears to be taking on set-piece duty for the Foxes. His versatility and creative abilities could make him a standout performer in the Premier League.

 

What run of fixtures favors Leicester the most for the 2024-2025 FPL season?

Leicester has a mixed bag of fixtures to start the season from Gameweeks 1-6, including tough matches against Tottenham, Arsenal, and Aston Villa -- three teams that finished in the top five last season. The schedule improves slightly from Gameweeks 7-10 but takes a rough turn during the festive season in December when it faces Liverpool, Manchester City, and Aston Villa from Gameweeks 18-20. However, the final stretch from Gameweeks 34-38 could offer Leicester a chance to build momentum and avoid relegation, as it won’t face any of the traditional top-6 teams in that run-in.

 

FPL Team Previews: Ipswich Town

Under the leadership of Kieran McKenna, Ipswich Town scored 92 goals, the highest in the Championship, and secured 28 wins out of 46 games while pushing for a top spot. Ipswich's attacking assets, Conor Chaplin (£5.5m) and Nathan Broadhead (£5m), were the top scorers with 13 goals each. Chelsea loanee Omari Hutchinson (£5.5m), who has now signed permanently, was a key player for Ipswich Town, contributing 10 goals and five assists.

  • League Finish: Second, 96 points
  • Most goals: Conor Chaplin, 13 goals
  • Most assists: Leif Davis, 18 assists

 

Player to Watch: Leif Davis

Top in the championship for assists (18), leading in chances created (125), a dead-ball specialist who primarily plays set-pieces for Ipswich Town, coupled with a high number of duels won (174) and ball recoveries completed (201). Leif Davis portrays similar traits to Luton Town's Alfie Doughty from last season.

Davis (£4.5m) is the one Ipswich Town player who has the potential to make an enormous difference in the Premier League, and he is currently on my watch list.

 

What run of fixtures favors Ipswich the most for the 2024-2025 FPL season?

Ipswich Town has a solid run of games from Gameweeks 3-10, with home fixtures against Fulham, Aston Villa, Everton, and Leicester City. The best time to target Ipswich assets could also be between Gameweeks 14-15 when it faces Crystal Palace and Bournemouth in consecutive home matches. However, from Gameweeks 17-27, it might be wise to avoid Ipswich players as they face several teams from last season's top seven.

Having been absent from the Premier League for over two decades, Ipswich Town is considered a likely favorite for relegation. While its fixtures may look promising on paper, it remains uncertain whether it can replicate its Championship success to avoid the drop.

 

FPL Team Previews: Southampton

Finishing among the top six in the Championship, Southampton had to take an alternate route in securing promotion by defeating West Bromwich and Leeds United in the Championship playoffs. Southampton main attacker Adam Armstrong (£5.5m) had a fantastic season with the Saints, contributing 21 goals and 13 assists. Scottish striker Che Adams, who has since moved to Torino on a free transfer, also had an impressive campaign with 16 goals and four assists.

  • League Finish: Fourth, 87 points
  • Most goals: Adam Armstrong, 21 goals
  • Most assists: Adam Armstrong, 13 assists
  • Qualified via Playoffs

 

Player To Watch: Ben Brereton Diaz

With Che Adams moving to the Italian League, Southampton has turned to the experience of former Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield United forward Ben Brereton Diaz. During his brief loan spell with the Blades, Brereton Diaz (£5.5m) managed six goals and an assist in 14 matches last season.

Listed as a midfielder in this year's fantasy game, Diaz has the potential to deliver significant fantasy points, especially if he plays out of position as a forward, capitalizing on the quality around him at Southampton.

 

What run of fixtures favors Southampton the most for the 2024-2025 FPL season?

Southampton has three home matches between Gameweeks 1-5, facing Nottingham Forest, Manchester United, and Ipswich Town. These fixtures present a prime opportunity to capitalize on the Saints' attacking assets like Armstrong and Brereton Diaz. Another favorable stretch occurs during Gameweeks 22-26, providing fantasy managers with another chance to target Southampton players.

However, Gameweeks 31-38 might be a period to avoid the Saints, as they face tough opponents like Tottenham, Manchester City, and Arsenal. It's also important to note the Saints conceded 63 goals last season, the most among the newly promoted sides. Southampton boss Russell Martin will need to strengthen the team's defense as it faces stronger competition this season.

 

What is one bold FPL prediction for any of the promoted teams?

Looking at each of the promoted teams thus far, Leicester appears to have the best chance of survival next season, though much will depend on its summer signings. Ipswich Town is likely to struggle, but it could still cause a few upsets along the way.

My bold FPL prediction is that Leicester City will avoid relegation, while Southampton and Ipswich will concede a significant number of goals and ultimately be relegated.
