When Is Roman Anthony Getting Called Up? Fantasy Baseball Prospect Outlook (Week 8 Update)

Roman Anthony - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Draft Sleepers, MLB Prospects

When is Roman Anthony getting called up? Will Anthony get promoted in May 2025? Read about this top fantasy baseball prospect outlook heading into Week 8.

With Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Roki Sasaki officially graduating as a prospect, MLB Pipeline now has outfielder Roman Anthony as the No. 1 overall prospect in baseball. Anthony was selected with the 79th overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox.

Since making his minor league debut in 2022, Anthony has shown out at all five levels (Rookie ball, Single-A, High-A, Double-A, and Triple-A). He has a career .289 batting average with 37 home runs, 158 RBI, and 41 stolen bases across 286 games.

So, when are the Red Sox going to call up Anthony? Can we expect him to make his debut in May? Let's dive in and find out.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Roman Anthony Prospect Update for Fantasy Baseball

Anthony has put together some strong minor league seasons over his career. He hit .272 with 14 home runs, 64 RBI, and 16 stolen bases in 106 games in 2023 and then batted .291 with 18 home runs, 65 RBI, and 21 stolen bases across 119 games between Double-A and Triple-A last season. As a result, it's not a surprise to see Boston's top prospect crushing it at the plate in 2025.

The 21-year-old is slashing .322/.446/.503 with five home runs, two triples, 17 RBI, and three stolen bases in 41 games at Triple-A Worcester this season. Anthony has also been red-hot at the plate recently. He has tallied a hit in nine straight games and has totaled five multi-hit games over his last seven contests.

Therefore, it's only a matter of time until the Red Sox decide to call up Anthony. He continues to show his potential down in Triple-A and has the chance to make an immediate impact in the majors. Given the way he is hitting in 2025, there's a strong chance that he is called up sometime in June.

Roman Anthony Outlook for Fantasy Baseball

At this point in the season, Anthony should be stashed in every fantasy league. He should make his major league debut in 2025, and it's hard to imagine he won't have an everyday role when promoted. That means the 21-year-old has the potential to be a solid fantasy option in Year 1, given his above-average hitting tools.

Something to keep in mind with the top prospect, though, is that there really isn't anywhere for him to play right now. Jarren Duran, Ceddanne Rafaela, and Wilyer Abreu are occupying the three outfield spots right now. While Anthony could eventually take over Rafaela's spot in the outfield, the 24-year-old is batting .296 over his last 15 games.

So, it might be a few more weeks before Anthony joins the major league club. However, he remains a strong stash candidate in all formats. There's a reason why he is MLB Pipeline's No. 1 overall prospect.
