Sam Howell 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook: Backup QB On A Talented Team
6 months agoSeattle Seahawks third-year quarterbackSam Howell aims to rebound in 2024 as a backup after starting for Washington didn't pan out in 2023. Howell was traded in the offseason from the Commanders after leading the league with 21 interceptions in exchange for draft picks. He'll serve as the backup to veteran Geno Smith in an offense that still boasts three impressive wide receivers, providing who starts with a strong set of weapons. While Smith could falter and be replaced by Howell, it's more likely that Howell's opportunity to play will only arise if Smith succumbs to injury. Howell claims he hasn't been informed that he's the backup and that the Seahawks frequently urge him to improve. This sounds like a typical coach-speak to maintain motivation, but the door may be cracked. While Howell was a serviceable streaming QB last year thanks to a league-leading 612 pass attempts, it seems he'll be on waiver wires this year pending injury. Howell in a starting role should make a viable streamer in most formats due to his WRs, but his RotoBaller rank of QB37 and a similar ADP leave him off of initial fantasy radars.
