Gameweek 7 Preview - Fantasy Premier League 2024-25 Tips and Captaincy Picks

Gameweek Tips - Fantasy Premier League, Soccer

This article provides a preview of what Gameweek 7 has in store for fantasy managers, including top captain selections and strong picks for the weekly FPL Challenge game.

Cole Palmer's 25-point haul, where he netted four goals against the Seagulls, was the major highlight of Gameweek 6. Many managers who captained Erling Haaland didn't score as expected, leading to a low-scoring week with an average of 50 points. But what does Gameweek 7 have in store? More on that soon.

The FPL Challenge series, International Series, presents a new task titled Asia-Pacific, where players from the Asia-Pacific region will earn double points. We'll provide weekly breakdowns of the top assets to choose from for each challenge.

The Gameweek 7 deadline of the 2024/25 Fantasy Premier League season is Saturday, October 5, at 6:00 a.m. EDT, when Crystal Palace welcomes Liverpool to London clash. Also, check out the rest of our excellent soccer coverage as the squad gets you all set for every EPL and UCL slate with our EPL DFS lineup picks and betting picks.

Gameweek 7 Tips

Prioritize Chelsea and Spurs' Attack, Invest in Man City and Arsenal's Defense

With our top three title contenders regularly considered favorites for selection, it may be time to shift our attention to other formidable attacking teams.

Based on goal projections, Tottenham and Chelsea are expected to generate 1.95 and 2.25 xG (expected goals) against their opponents in Gameweek 7.

Defensively, Manchester City and Arsenal have been projected to earn clean sheets, with a 46% likelihood for Manchester City and 55% for Arsenal.

Recommended players for attacking returns:

  • Tottenham: Dominic Solanke, James Maddison, and Brennan Johnson.
  • Chelsea: Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson, and Noni Madueke.

Recommended defenders:

  • Arsenal: Gabriel and Jurrien Timber
  • Manchester City: Rico Lewis and John Stones

The Cityzens - Defending Champions Favorable Fixtures

A set of favorable fixtures now tips in Manchester City's favor. From Gameweeks 7 to 12, the Cityzens have only one tough matchup against a traditional top-six team: Tottenham.

Except for Erling Haaland, who is owned by the majority of FPL managers, it’s highly recommended that you bring more Man City assets into your team.

Investing early in players like Phil Foden and John Stones, who have been in impressive form in the Champions League, could serve as strong differential picks and provide crucial points during a favorable stretch of fixtures for City.

Unbeaten Villans - Eyes on Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran

A return to the Champions League, a midweek victory against Bayern Munich, three consecutive Premier League games unbeaten in September, and Unai Emery's nomination for Manager of the Month—Aston Villa are certainly living on cloud nine right now.

The team is riding a wave of momentum, and their performances are a testament to their resurgence under Emery's leadership.

All-Rounder Ollie Watkins

One standout player for Aston Villa is their talisman, Ollie Watkins. The Englishman boasts four goals in his last three games, accumulating 35 FPL points in those outings.

With 0.74 non-penalty expected goals (npxG) per 90 minutes, Watkins is well-positioned for a big performance when he faces a porous Manchester United defense this weekend.

Super-Sub King: Jhon Duran

Aston Villa's rising star Jhon Duran has not just been an impact sub but has also helped his team secure late winners on multiple occasions this season.

Despite limited minutes, the 20-year-old Colombian ranks first with 1.75 goals per 90 minutes for Aston Villa, a figure that stands out across the top seven leagues. Duran could emerge as a lethal threat and an excellent fantasy pick if he secures a start against Manchester United this weekend.

Gameweek 7 Top Captain Picks

The weekend fixtures present a list of fascinating options for your captaincy choice. Players like Bukayo Saka facing Southampton, Bryan Mbeumo at home to Wolves, and Ollie Watkins against Manchester United all present strong cases. However, my top three picks would be:

Erling Haaland (£15.3m) - Manchester City

Premier League leading goal scorer Braut Erling Haaland is our top captain pick of the week, benefiting from a home advantage as Man City welcomes Fulham to the Etihad Stadium.

With an impressive 1.67 goals per 90 minutes in the Premier League and six of his last 10 goals scored at home, Haaland is the optimal choice for the captain's armband this weekend.

Cole Palmer (£10.7m) - Chelsea

"Ice Cold" Palmer's four goals in the previous matchup now bring his total to 10 goal contributions (six goals and four assists) for the Blues. The Englishman is on a hot streak of form, averaging 10.2 FPL points per match.

With Chelsea's high goal-scoring potential under Enzo Maresca and a hybrid style of play, including a key role on set-piece duty, Palmer is a compelling choice for the armband this weekend against Nottingham Forest.

Mohamed Salah (£12.7m) - Liverpool

With four goals and four assists in the Premier League, Liverpool's most influential player, Mohamed Salah, continues to shine. The 32-year-old has produced 11 goal contributions (six goals and five assists) for the Reds across all competitions this season.

Salah also boasts an impressive record of eight goals in his last 14 appearances against Crystal Palace, making the Egyptian king a solid captaincy choice if you have him in your fantasy team.

Differential Gameweek 7 Captain (<10% ownership)

Brennan Johnson (£6.4m) - Tottenham

Brennan Johnson, a 22-year-old Welsh international, has been in excellent form for Tottenham, scoring five goals in his last five games across all competitions. His clinical performance against Manchester United in Gameweek 6 showcased his attacking prowess, and his recent form is a good sign of more FPL returns to come.

With Tottenham set to face Brighton, who recently conceded four goals to Chelsea in the previous matchup, Johnson is an exciting alternate captaincy option for Gameweek 7.

FPL Challenge: International Series

The FPL Challenge section for the 2024-25 season is back, and RotoBaller remains your go-to source for valuable insights on selecting the right assets for any challenge.

The sixth challenge, "Africa," in the International Series focused on selecting a team of five players from the African continent. Now, we move to the Asia-Pacific challenge, which is the final part of the International Series.

Meanwhile, if you missed it, let's recap the FPL event tagged as International Series and what is expected from the upcoming FPL Challenge event.

The International Series is a three-gameweek run that celebrates the diversity of the Premier League. The purpose is to let managers compete in three different challenges using the best players from three different regions:

  • Gameweek 5: Americas - Select players only from the Americas.
  • Gameweek 6: Africa - Select players only from Africa.
  • Gameweek 7: Asia-Pacific - Double points are allotted to players from Asia-Pacific only.

International Series FPL Challenge: Asia-Pacific - Players to Target

Week 7 of the FPL Challenge focuses on diversity, highlighting Asia-Pacific players who earn double points for this event. Managers can choose five players with an unlimited budget, creating a unique opportunity for strategic planning.

Our RotoBaller top five picks for this week's Challenge are:

  • Arsenal's duo of Gabriel in defense and David Raya and goal.
  • Chelsea's Cole Palmer and Brighton's Kaoru Mitoma in midfield.
  • Manchester City's Erling Haaland as the sole forward, completing the 1-2-1 formation.

While the pool of Asia-Pacific players is limited for this challenge, a player like Kaoru Mitoma could be a key asset. If he delivers a strong performance against Tottenham, he could capitalize on the double points boost, making him a valuable pick for this week's challenge.

Best of luck to everyone participating in this week's challenge!
