Jason Foley 2025 Player Outlook: Carries 15+ Save Upside With Risk In Later Rounds
2 weeks agoDetroit Tigers relief pitcher Jason Foley is expected to be the top option in a potential closer-by-committee in Detroit in 2025. Last season, Foley tallied 28 saves across 60 innings of work. He posted a 3.15 ERA with a 1.18 WHIP. He struck out batters at a poor 18.4% rate and showed average command with an 8.0% walk rate. He also generated a poor 4.20 xERA and .255 xBA, which suggests he could be due for some regression in 2025. He relied primarily on his sinker, which generated a poor .362 xwOBA and a 13.6% whiff rate. However, his slider (second-most used pitch) was quite productive as he generated a solid 32% whiff rate with a .243 xwOBA. Throughout the season, he showed flashes of dominance, which were quickly followed by rough patches. Across his first 13 innings, he allowed just two earned runs. However, over his next 23, he carried a hefty 5.70 ERA. If Foley were to continue to struggle. Tyler Holton will likely be promoted to the closer role. Fantasy managers should expect Foley to tally double-digit saves but do not expect him to have ninth-inning duties the entire summer, given his inconsistent production. He is a fine target, as he should tally around 15+ saves at his 374.4 ADP on the NFBC, but he may not be given as long of a leash as he had last summer.
