Keelon Russell Wins Alabama Starting Quarterback Job
Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell will open the season as the Crimson Tide's starter after beating out Austin Mack for the job, according to On3's Chris Low and Pete Nakos. Russell was barely used behind Ty Simpson last year, throwing just 15 passes and completing 11 of them for 143 yards and two touchdowns. He made his move this preseason. Russell's ability to get outside the pocket and keep plays alive reportedly stood out in scrimmage work, and that's a big part of what makes him interesting for fantasy. RotoBaller has him at QB17 and No. 148 overall right now. That's a pretty aggressive ranking for a quarterback who has never started a college game, but the job is his and the rushing element helps. We'll get our first real look Sept. 5 against East Carolina.
