Virginia Tech Close To Naming James Franklin As Head Coach
Virginia Tech was the first team to fire its coach this year, giving Brent Pry the boot after the school's first 0-3 start since 1987. The Hokies were blown out by Old Dominion at home in Week 3. Franklin was given the boot at Penn State after three consecutive losses, one to winless UCLA. Penn State was ranked third in the preseason and stumbled to a 3-3 start. Sources say that Franklin could be officially announced as Virginia Tech's head coach tomorrow. Details of the deal are unavailable. Franklin, a native of the Philadelphia area, compiled a 128-60 record as head coach of Vanderbilt from 2011-13 and Penn State from 2014-25.
