Fantasy Football Draft Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider drafting in 2025:
Jerry Jeudy - WR, Cleveland Browns
When the Broncos drafted Jerry Jeudy with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, some held him in the same regard as draftmate CeeDee Lamb, who went two picks later. The Alabama alum never rose to the heights of Lamb, and after falling out of favor with the team, Denver shipped him off to Cleveland ahead of the 2024 season.
His campaign started slow, but a Deshaun Watson (Achilles) injury forced Jameis Winston to the helm and sparked Jeudy's breakout. From Week 8 to Week 15, the wideout exploded, putting together a 49/786/3 line and was the PPR WR5 despite having a bye in Week 10 (seven games). Not much was added in terms of target competition, aside from the free agent acquisition of Diontae Johnson. However, his QB situation is much murkier.
For now, Cleveland has a wide range of candidates who could get the nod, including veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett and third- and fifth-round rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. Jeudy is the team's top wideout, with Johnson and Cedric Tillman backing him up, but tight end David Njoku is a significant target threat. Even if he has truly leveled up, the uncertainty of his quarterback play and tendencies make him a riskier option. He ranks as RotoBaller's PPR WR32 and No. 63 overall.
David Montgomery - RB, Detroit Lions
Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery is heading into his third season with the team. The 28-year-old was productive throughout his tenure with the Chicago Bears. On the other hand, it's safe to say he's been at his best in Detroit. Montgomery ran for over 1,000 yards and found the end zone 13 times in 2023. Although he wasn't as potent in 2024, he still finished with 775 yards on 185 carries while amassing 12 touchdowns over 14 games.
There is reason to believe his statistical contributions could regress even more during the 2025 campaign. Montgomery is older, which is never good for those playing the position. He also has to share a backfield with Jahmyr Gibbs, a player with an excellent chance of staying in the Pro Bowl conversation. Amon-Ra St. Brown is also still around, and Jameson Williams should command extra attention after surpassing the 1,000-yard receiving mark. With that in mind, Montgomery currently holds the No. 17 spot in standard formats and the No. 19 spot in PPR leagues in RotoBaller's fantasy football rankings for 2025.
Without question, Montgomery is an obvious insurance policy for those who select Gibbs in fantasy football drafts. Still, the Lions are anticipated to remain among the highest-scoring teams in the National Football League. Montgomery should retain his stand-alone value, especially since he is expected to get opportunities inside the red zone. Unfortunately, he's dealt with injuries over the years, most recently missing time last season because of an MCL injury. As such, that may continue to be an issue for fantasy managers.
Jaydon Blue - RB, Dallas Cowboys
New Dallas Cowboys running back Jaydon Blue, selected with the 149th overall pick by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2025 NFL Draft, is easily the best pass-catching running back on the squad right now. While the backfield is technically crowded right now, with RBs Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders being signed after the 2024 season and Phil Mafah also drafted this year (in the seventh round), Blue has a clear path to immediate fantasy relevancy in PPR leagues.
If he can establish himself as at least one of two backs that are primarily used in games, his penchant for forcing missed tackles and his solid receiving upside could make him a startable player. He forced 0.27 missed tackles per rush in 2024 and was second among 31 qualifying RB prospects in yards per route run and targets per route run. It's likely this is a big reason why Dallas selected Blue.
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott would certainly like a nice weapon to throw the ball to out of the backfield, and he and Blue should develop a connection early. Prescott's lack of mobility will be exacerbated by his career injury history, so he could look Blue's way often on check downs and dump-offs to get out of trouble. Blue should be a nice value in the late rounds of redraft leagues and a good dynasty stash.
Tre Harris - WR, Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers rookie wide receiver Tre Harris landed in one of the best possible situations for a first-year wideout, especially considering his skill set and limitations. He was drafted in the second round, so he has solid draft capital, and he'll join WR Ladd McConkey to serve as the team's clear top-2 receivers.
While there are valid questions about Harris' athleticism, as he ran a 4.54-second 40-yard dash and doesn't have the explosiveness to sell his routes as ideally as he could, playing with quarterback Justin Herbert helps quite a bit. Herbert has a rocket launcher of an arm, and his completion percentage and passer rating are phenomenal when throwing to receivers running the routes that Harris performed best in -- namely, slant routes and comeback routes. Harris will have McConkey to help draw coverage priority away from him as well.
While he might not thrive on deep passes in the NFL owing to his lack of pure speed, he could be an excellent chain-mover, and still earn plenty of targets. Herbert should unlock his potential, and he should be a worthy flex player in most leagues in 2025.
