Fantasy Baseball Players To Monitor Closely
Shane Bieber, SP - Toronto Blue Jays
Rostered: 53% Yahoo!
Estimated Return: Late August
The newest member of the Blue Jays' rotation was acquired at the trade deadline and has yet to make his 2025 debut. The pitcher joining Toronto atop the AL East is none other than Shane Bieber.
Bieber had a mediocre 2023 season and then got hurt early in 2024, so it's been nearly three years since he was last considered one of the best pitchers in baseball. Despite that long gap, it's important to remember the type of pitcher Bieber was and the type of pitcher he can potentially be this season.
In 2022, Bieber posted a 2.88 ERA in 200 innings. That 200-inning mark is an impressive one when you learn that only four pitchers reached that mark last season. When he's healthy, Bieber is known for pitching deep into games often.
Bieber also reached tremendous heights in 2020 when he took home the AL Cy Young award and the pitching triple crown, albeit in a shortened season. Bieber was electric back then, and if he can be anywhere close to the level, fantasy managers will be in for a treat.
The 30-year-old's most recent rehab start came at Triple-A, and he struck out six batters in five innings. Bieber is likely only a rehab start or two away from joining the Blue Jays' rotation, and when he does, he'll have a high-powered offense behind him to help win games.

Bieber is rostered in just over half of Yahoo! leagues, which means he's possibly out there in your league. The newest Blue Jay hurler is worth adding in every league because he possesses league-winning upside.
Dylan Crews, OF - Washington Nationals
Rostered: 47% Yahoo!
Estimated Return: August 5-10
I wrote about Crews two weeks ago, but it's time to bring him up again. The Nationals outfielder is coming to the end of his rehab journey and should be activated from the 60-day injured list sometime this week.
Most of his sleeper appeal this past draft season appears to have worn off because he's available in over half of Yahoo! leagues, but the reason he was a popular breakout candidate remains. Crews is ultimately still the same player who ranked as one of the best prospects in baseball and was drafted second overall.
His significant oblique injury has kept him from playing nearly the entire season, but his imminent return means he should be on the radar of every fantasy baseball player.

Crews arrived at Triple-A last week to continue his rehab process, and he has been raking there. In his most recent game, Crews went 2-for-4 with a home run and a double. Crews is projected back sometime this week, so stash him while you can.
Rhys Hoskins, 1B - Milwaukee Brewers
Rostered: 25% Yahoo!
Estimated Return: Late August
Rhys Hoskins has been one of the most consistent power threats in baseball when healthy, and managers should expect more of the same when he returns.
Since the 2021 season, Hoskins has hit 26 or more home runs in each year. Hoskins racked up 12 home runs in 82 games this season, putting him essentially on a 24-homer pace.
The Brewers are currently the best team in baseball, and Andrew Vaughn has done a valiant job in his stead, but Milwaukee is a better team when Hoskins is part of the lineup. Hoskins is rostered in just 25% of Yahoo! leagues and should return to the team by the end of August. He's a smart stash option for teams looking to make up some ground in the power department.
Simeon Woods Richardson, SP - Minnesota Twins
Rostered: 7% Yahoo!
Estimated Return: August 16
I can't say that I'm the biggest believer in Simeon Woods Richardson, but there's no denying that he was on an impressive run before hitting the injured list with an illness.
In his last eight starts before getting sick, Woods Richardson hadn't allowed more than three earned runs in any start. The Twins pitcher also went at least five innings in five of his last eight starts.
There is optimism that the 24-year-old will return on August 16, when he is first eligible. He is only rostered in 7% of Yahoo! leagues right now, and that looks pretty underpriced for how he's been performing lately.
Stash Woods Richardson in deep leagues because he can produce serviceable starting pitcher numbers for next to nothing. As long as you keep your expectations low, Woods Richardson is a worthwhile fantasy rotation piece.
Alek Manoah, SP - Toronto Blue Jays
Rostered: 2% Yahoo!
Estimated Return: Late August
Manoah is an interesting player to analyze because he had one of the most significant statistical downfalls in recent memory.
In 2022, Manoah posted a 2.24 ERA in 196 2/3 innings. One year after posting that incredible season, Manoah had a dreadful 2o23 season. Manoah's 2023 ERA was 5.87 in 87 1/3 innings. The Blue Jays pitcher had his ERA jump over three runs in just one season.
Manoah's 2024 season proved that there is still some hope for him to bounce back. In 2024, he posted a 3.40 ERA in just 24 1/3 innings before suffering his elbow injury. If he can regain his form from the 2o22 season, he could be one of the most impactful players available on waivers.
Andres Gimenez will play a rehab game with Buffalo tomorrow and start his game progression
Alek Manoah threw a bullpen in Florida today and will pitch in a game with AA Thursday
— Hazel Mae (@thehazelmae) August 4, 2025
Manoah recently threw a bullpen session and will reportedly make a start at Double-A on Thursday, August 7. The 27-year-old is rostered in just 2% of Yahoo! leagues, making him a widely available lottery ticket to bet on. If your team is locked into the playoffs and you're looking for ways to improve down the stretch, Manoah is a low-risk/high-reward option.
