According to Jesse Rogers of ESPN, MLB umpire Pat Hoberg was fired due to sharing betting accounts with a friend. This individual bet on baseball games. However, there is no evidence that Hoberg worked during the games that were bet on or that he himself placed bets on MLB games. Rogers also noted that Hoberg deleted any messages central to the league's investigation. The league said they relieved Hoberg of his duties to "uphold the integrity of the game." The 38-year-old was considered one of the best callers in the game. He called a perfect game during Game 2 of the 2022 World Series and became a full-time umpire during the 2017 campaign. He also worked during the 2023 World Baseball Classic. Hoberg can apply for reinstatement no earlier than the start of spring training in 2026.--Andy Smith
