Recent Update

1 month agoUpdating a previous report, San Diego Padres rookie shortstop phenom Fernando Tatis Jr. (back) is "most likely done" for the rest of the season due to a stress reaction in his back. He was placed on the 10-day injured list on Friday. Tatis will be re-evaluated in three weeks, but manager Andy Green said it's unlikely that Tatis will play again this year. The 20-year-old was hitting .317/.379/.590 in 84 games this year and was making a play to be in contention for the National League Rookie Of the Year. He also missed 34 games earlier this year with a strained left hamstring, but Tatis remains one of the best young players in the game moving forward. The Friars are expected to give infielder Ty France consistent repetitions at second base, with Luis Urias moving to the 6. France, the team's No. 23 prospect per MLB Pipeline, hit .399 with 27 home runs and a 1.247 OPS in 76 games with Triple-A El Paso. It remains to be seen if he can translate that to success in the big leagues, but he's worth a pickup as a middle infielder in deep mixed and NL-only leagues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
