Josh Heupel Slams NCAA for Arion Carter Suspension
Following the NCAA's suspension of All-SEC Tennessee linebacker Arion Carter for taking a $427 agent-funded flight (which he paid back) during the NFL pre-draft process, Vols head coach Josh Heupel called the decision "bull----." "I think it is extremely unfortunate and not the right decision," Heupel said. He also referred to the ruling as "outdated." Carter was the leading tackler in the SEC last season (7.6 per game) and is slated to miss the matchups with Furman and Georgia Tech to open the 2026 campaign. In 31 career games, Carter has tallied 161 total tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, one interception, and nine pass deflections. In his absence, linebackers Jadon Perlotte, Edwin Spillman, Amare Campbell, and Jeremiah Telander will be forced to step up.
