Fantasy Football Drop Candidates
Read about fantasy football players to consider dropping for Week 10:
Travis Hunter, WR, Jaguars
According to The Athletic's Michael Silver, Jacksonville Jaguars rookie wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter (knee) is not thought to have suffered long-term damage to his knee after picking up an injury at practice on Thursday. Hunter was the victim of a non-contact injury late in the week.
Although reports state his ACL remains intact, the Jags wasted no time sending him to IR. It's hapless timing for the rookie, who was coming off his best performance as a pro. Fortunately, the team doesn't seem too concerned about his ailment, though Silver noted that they have no intention of rushing him back. Either way, Hunter will miss at least the next four contests. While he's sidelined, fantasy managers can expect teammates Parker Washington and Dyami Brown to pick up most of the slack behind the corps' leader, Brian Thomas Jr.
Joe Mixon, RB, Texans
In what is becoming part of his weekly routine, Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans told reporters on Monday that he has no update on the injury status of Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon (foot). Mixon has been on the team's NFI list since the beginning of training camp after injuring his ankle/foot during a spring workout. More than halfway through the fantasy football regular season, managers who have kept him stashed on IR are potentially weighing their options as injuries continue to mount around the league.
With the emergence of rookie Woody Marks and the loudening rumors that Mixon could miss the entirety of the season, he should no longer be viewed as a must-hold. At the same time, managers with the luxury of an open IR spot should monitor their own league's waivers, as he's dropped in more leagues each week.
Chuba Hubbard, RB, Panthers
Carolina Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard saw little involvement in the running game in Carolina's 16-13 surprise win over the Packers in Week 9. The Panthers' RB logged just 17 yards on five carries while registering 1.7 PPR fantasy points, his lowest in a single game this season. Earlier in the week, head coach Dave Canales said that Rico Dowdle would be the team's starting running back and handle the majority of touches. Sunday's game proved that to be the case, as Hubbard only played on 16.7% of snaps while Dowdle went on to have his third game this year with over 28 PPR points.
Fantasy players should bench Hubbard until further notice as a handcuff to Dowdle, but also pay attention to any rumors about him being moved at the trade deadline this week. Another team may resurrect Hubbard's fantasy appeal, so fantasy players should be patient and not cut him yet.
Isiah Pacheco, RB, Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco (knee) is expected to return in Week 11, following the team's bye, according to head coach Andy Reid (via CBS Sports' Tracy Wolfson). Pacheco has already been ruled out for Week 9 against the Buffalo Bills, and he'll use the bye week as a little extra time to rest and recover.
In the meantime, Kansas City's backfield will be led by Kareem Hunt, while rookie Brashard Smith also figures to get involved. Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Elijah Mitchell round out the running back depth chart. Pacheco should rank as a high-end RB3/flex against the Broncos when he returns.
Calvin Ridley, WR, Titans
The Tennessee Titans are not shopping wide receiver Calvin Ridley (hamstring) ahead of Tuesday's 4 p.m. trade deadline, according to Turron Davenport of ESPN. Davenport's post on X claims to refute other reports that said Ridley was being shopped. However, he does note that the team has been receiving interest in Ridley.
Even though the Titans aren't actively trying to move the veteran receiver, he could still be traded if another team makes a fair offer. Such a scenario would open the door for rookies Elic Ayomanor and Chimere Dike to occupy even larger roles on offense.
