Vaughn Grissom 2024 Player Outlook: Don't Let Early Injury Scare You Off Of Potential Sleeper
9 months agoBoston Red Sox second baseman Vaughn Grissom was acquired in the offseason as an offensive upgrade at the position, however, after suffering a groin strain in spring workouts, it is unclear exactly when he'll debut. Thankfully it doesn't sound like he'll miss much of the regular season, if any. The former 11th-round draft pick has been superb at the plate in the minors and has more than held his own during two stints in the majors, collecting a career .287-5-27-29-5 line with a .326 WOBA and 107 wRC+ over 236 PA. In his limited sample, the 23-year-old posted an 81.3% Contact% last season and a 10.3% SwStr%, both better than league average. His 18.8% K% in 2023 was better than average, but his BB% was just 2.5%, so that needs improvement. ATC projections see Grissom getting 527 PA this season, with a .280-10-58-64-11 line, .330 WOBA, and 103 wRC+. The youngster is going around pick 313 in NFBC drafts, but RotoBaller has an optimistic view of when he'll be back and how he'll produce once he returns, ranking him at 218 overall. Also note that he's currently only eligible at shortstop, but would have dual eligibility at shortstop and second base soon after he debuts.
