Jordan Montgomery Should Be A Strong Streamer
7 years agoJordan Montgomery seemingly popped out of nowhere for the New York Yankees last year, winning a spot in the rotation during Spring Training. The rookie left-hander made 29 starts, tossing 155 innings and posting a 9-7 record with a 3.88 ERA. He flashed signs of staying power in the rotation, going 4-0 with a 2.59 ERA in June and going 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA in September as the Yankees battled for a Wild Card spot. Montgomery's BB/9 was a manageable 2.95, but his strikeouts were low and his 1.22 HR/9 could use some work. Ultimately, it was a promising debut season for the 25-year-old, but will it be enough to retain his spot in the rotation? New York currently has four slots of the five locked in, as CC Sabathia, Sonny Gray, Masahiro Tanaka and Luis Severino are all guaranteed starters. Montgomery would once again seem like a clear choice for the final spot, but his club is still currently in talks with free agents. At this point, that factor should keep users away from the rookie. Even if he does win out the final spot, Montgomery seems best fit as a streamer to consider as the season progresses, rather than someone to spend a draft pick on.
