Elijah Moore 2023 Outlook: Receiver Gets Fresh Start In New Home
2 years agoCleveland Browns wide receiver Elijah Moore is gearing up for his first season with a new team. The former New York Jet found his way to Cleveland via trade this offseason, and the fact that any team was willing to give up draft compensation for him suggests that he could have a legitimate role this coming season. There's even some optimism that he could return to his 2021 form when he averaged 3.9 catches, 48.9 yards, and 0.5 touchdowns per game. Unfortunately, the Jets didn't utilize him in a productive role last season, leading to low volume and inconsistent play. Nevertheless, he did perform when called upon, delivering a 44.2 percent route win rate, 12.0 ADOT, and 268 slot snaps. Most impressive, though, was his 102.8 percent true catch rate, which ranked fifth among all NFL wide receivers and showed that Moore was able to make plays happen even when dealing with subpar quarterback play and poorly thrown passes. There's no denying that the talent is there, and now he just needs an opportunity to prove it with a larger role and more volume. Moore does face some competition in Cleveland; the Browns love their returning three-headed pass-catching corps of Amari Cooper, David Njoku, and Donovan Peoples-Jones. However, none of those players can work the slot like Moore can, which instantly creates a path for the former second-round pick to thrive. A full offseason of practices without any distractions should bode well for quarterback Deshaun Watson as he looks to rebound from a shaky 2022 campaign, and the rest of the offense (including Moore) should benefit as a result. Moore currently ranks as RotoBaller's WR46, making him a slight value at his current ADP of 126.
