LIV Golf Betting Picks - 2025 Miami

The LIV Golf League will hold this week’s event at Trump National Doral in Miami, Florida. Trump National Doral Golf Club was founded in 1962 and originally named Doral Country Club before being purchased by the Trump Organization in 2012. The resort consists of four separate courses; the most notable is the Blue Monster Course which was designed by Dick Wilson and overwent a Gil Hanse re-design in 2014. This is the course we will be seeing this week for the LIV Miami event.

The Blue Monster Course hosted the WGC-Cadillac Championship from 2007-2016. Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed and Phil Mickelson all won this event, although Mickelson’s win came prior to the re-design. Although he never won, Bubba Watson has three runner-up finishes at this event. The Blue Monster has also hosted the LIV Golf League team championship each of LIV's first two seasons, as well as the individual LIV Miami event in 2024. Dean Burmester defeated Sergio Garcia in a playoff in this event last season.

The event will be played Friday-Sunday and will air on the Fox Sports Network, as well as the Fox Sports App and LIV Golf Plus. Globally, the event will be broadcast in over 160 international territories, Live and On-Demand, free of charge, via LIV Golf Plus.

LIV Golf Miami Course Breakdown

Below is the official Round 1 scorecard provided by LIV Golf.

Hole 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Out
Par 5 4 4 3 4 4 4 5 3 36
Yardage 578 463 440 227 414 430 472 590 190 3804
Hole 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 In
Par 5 4 5 3 4 3 4 4 4 36
Yardage 608 428 670 245 475 183 370 450 468 3897

The Blue Monster Course is going to be a brute this week, playing just over 7,700 yards. The course is long and challenging, featuring a ton of strategically placed bunkers and deep rough throughout. Water is a staple of this course, visible on every hole and coming into play on most. The course is named “The Blue Monster” because of the challenging water hazards players are forced to deal with during the round. The course’s signature hole is number 18, a 468-yard par 4, which features water running the whole length of the hole up the left side. While missing right is the bailout, players will then be rewarded with a long approach shot out of deep rough into a green surrounded by water on the left side. There is also heavy wind currently in the forecast for this weekend's event, although that is always subject to change.

This will be fourth straight year that LIV Golf has hosted an event at this course, however, only the second year of individual competition. The first two LIV events at Doral were team match-play. Last season's individual event was won at -11 by Dean Burmester, who defeated Sergio Garcia in a playoff.

Both Burmester and Garcia finished the week inside the top four in Green In Regulation percentage. Overall, eight of the top thirteen finishers last year ranked T11 or better for the week in Green In Regulation percentage.  Given the length and toughness of Doral, this course is going to put a premium on ball striking. Longer players can get away with missed fairways, as Burmester demonstrated last year, but they will need to exquisite with their iron play.

Due to the sheer length and difficulty of the course, I believe longer hitters are going to have a huge advantage this week. At the very least, players who play long courses well. Patrick Reed is an example in my mind of a guy who isn’t necessarily a bomber but has performed historically well at longer more challenging courses. Reed finished T9 at this event last season.

This is also the final tune-up for next week’s Masters. Players who will be teeing it up at Augusta next week may come into this week with a little extra motivation to find some form and confidence leading into the season’s first major.

LIV Golf Betting Strategy & Selections - Miami

Given the setup of the course this week, I am going to look for long hitters who have a proven track record of playing well on difficult courses. Since this was a former stop on the PGA Tour, I will also be taking into account players who have a strong record and proven success at Trump Doral.

Brooks Koepka +1800 (FanDuel)

Brooks Koepka is coming off a second place finish in Singapore and appears to be trending in the right direction with Augusta around the corner. Surprise, surprise. Koepka has gained strokes on approach in each of his last two starts and also gained strokes off the tee his last time out. The driver had been shaky to start the season for the five-time major champion, albeit some of the courses were not the most suitable for his game off the tee. His most recent start in Singapore marked the first time in 2025 that Brooks gained strokes across the board in all major statistical categories.

The 34-year-old has a history of kicking it into another gear when major season rolls around. This is obvious with five major championships on his resume, but it has also translated to his LIV lead-ins to majors. In 2023, Koepka won LIV Orlando the week prior to Augusta. Last year, Koepka won in Singapore his final start before the PGA Championship. Could Doral mark the third straight year that Koepka has won in a start prior to a major?

There is no major Koepka wants more than the Masters. He stated earlier this year to Rick Shiels that he felt like he could and should have won in both 2019 and 2023. With redemption on his mind, I expect to see a fine tuned BK this week. The 18-1 number for a trending Koepka, who has won more LIV tournaments than anyone in the history of the league, is too good to pass up.

Dustin Johnson +4000 (DraftKings)

Dustin Johnson had a simply horrendous start to 2025. He failed to finish inside the top-30 in any of his first three starts of the LIV season, including a dead last finish in Hong Kong. This lead to people questioning, is DJ simply done and looking at retirement? DJ answered the critics by firing a first round 63 in Singapore and following it up with a second round 68. Johnson finished T5 on the week.

He hit the ball great off the tee, gaining over a stroke and a half on the field per data golf. He also, for the first time this year, gained strokes putting. The two-time major champion lost at least 0.79 strokes putting in each of his first three starts. If the putter is starting to come to life, we could be catching a number on Johnson, who has won a LIV event in each of the league's first three seasons.

Johnson has a great track record at Doral, finishing inside the top ten three times in eight starts. He won the WGC-Cadillac Championship here in 2015, coming after the Hanse re-design of the course. He finished T24 in this event last season. That said, his length off the tee and strong track record at major championships and other difficult courses should suit him well this week with the setup at Doral.

Another interesting discussion around Dustin Johnson is that his major exemptions expire this year, except of course the lifetime exemption at the Masters. If he wants to continue playing in the majors, he will need to show some signs of life at one of them this season. He has historically had a great track record at Augusta and should be highly motivated this week in his final start before this season's first major.
