Impact MLB Prospects: Which Major Call-Ups Are Left?

Coby Mayo - Fantasy Baseball Prospects, Draft Sleepers, MLB Rookies

Dawn highlights four impact MLB prospect call-ups still in the minors. These are impact fantasy baseball prospects who should get called up in the 2024 season.

So many MLB prospects, so little time left in the season! Many have been called up, but who still awaits "the call"?

In this article, I will highlight Triple-A prospects still looking to get called up this year. I will focus on several minor leaguers who hope to make an impact in August or September.

I also discuss which teams might benefit from the help of one of these prospects and which teams might consider trading for one to make a difference this year. With the MLB trade deadline approaching, I will discuss at least one top prospect who was recently traded. Let's dive in!

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Major Triple-A Prospects Ready to Make an Impact

Junior Caminero, INF - Tampa Bay Rays

Last Sunday, Caminero crushed his fourth home run of his past eight games. Per our own Andy Webb, the Rays' No. 1 prospect has been on a hot streak at the plate. According to MLB Pipeline, he currently sits as the No. 2 prospect among third basemen. With Yandy Diaz out indefinitely and shifting Isaac Paredes to first base, the Rays need help at third base.

Does that mean he'll make it back to Tampa this year? He should. It would be a surprise if Caminero doesn't play for the Rays in 2024, and just as probable that he will benefit fantasy rosters at the same time.

Coby Mayo, INF - Baltimore Orioles

The O's GM, Mike Elias, has already stated that he believes Mayo will be able to help the Orioles this season. Yes, Mayo's numbers have come down a bit, but we'll forgive him coming down from season stats of .302/.381/.999 to .319/.424/.639 in 19 games since returning to Triple-A Norfolk.

Keep an eye on how much Mayo's name is coming up in MLB trade rumors. Baltimore needs elite pitching to get to the World Series and will include some of its top prospects to make that happen. According to Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Pirates turned down an offer from Baltimore that would have sent Pirates closer David Bednar to the O's, with the cornerstone of the deal to the Pirates being Mayo.

Deyvison De Los Santos, 2B - Arizona Diamondbacks

Thursday night, the Diamondbacks and Marlins struck a deal that sent lefty reliever A.J. Puk to Arizona in exchange for a few prospects, including one of the top bombers in the minor leagues, Deyvison De Los Santos. At the time of the trade, he had hit 28 home runs, the most in the minor leagues. He is also leading the minors with 84 RBI, .635 slugging, and a total of 217 bases.

How much will his power play in the big leagues? For one, his miss rates both inside and outside the zone of concern, and he chases pitches at a rate of around 42%. He’s mostly played first base this season, so he will need to continue crushing the ball to get the most out of his big league value. That said, he leads Triple-A in the 90th percentile EV at 109 mph, so continuing to crush the ball shouldn't be an issue.

Dylan Crews, OF - Washington Nationals

Last night, the Nats' No. 2 prospect, Dylan Crews, hit a pair of doubles for Triple-A Rochester. Although the Rochester Red Wings lost to the Lehigh IronPigs (I need to look into that name!), Crews had a good game, finishing 2-for-4 with a walk. Crews, who was the second overall pick in last year's MLB Draft, has recorded a hit in 10 of his last 11 games. Since July 5, he has a batting average of .289 with three doubles and two home runs.

Crews has stolen 20 bases in Double-A and Triple-A this year, highlighting his potential as a leadoff hitter. He has also hit eight home runs, scored 40 runs, and has 49 RBI in the minor leagues in 2024. Although CJ Abrams has excelled in the leadoff position for the Nationals this season, bringing in Crews, with his ability to steal bases and score runs, would only benefit the team.
