Week 2's Fantasy Football Mailbag

Mike's Take: Both backs were neck and neck in fantasy scoring in Week 1 with 22.2 and 22 points, respectively. Crowell did more with less, as he averaged 2.22 fantasy points per touch, compared to Lewis' 1.05. However, Crowell caught zero passes and plays second fiddle to Bilal Powell in passing down situations. Whereas, Lewis thrives in passing situations, which was evident in last week's action when he caught five passes. Both Crowell and Lewis are in timeshares, but Crowell is far more touchdown-dependent. Lewis is the safer play in PPR formats.

Mike's Take: O.J. Howard has the highest pedigree and upside out of the four. The former first-round selection is still sharing targets with Cameron Brate, but he showcased his big-play ability with 54 yards on two receptions in Week 1. If Howard gets more opportunities he could turn into a reliable top 10 option. Ricky Seals-Jones would be my second pick. He saw six targets last week and is the clear-cut top tight end option for an Arizona team that lacks proven receivers, aside from Larry Fitzgerald. Furthermore, the Cardinals are a team that could be playing from behind often, which bodes well for Seals-Jones' target-share and fantasy production moving forward.

Mike's Take: You've got four pretty strong options there, but Dion Lewis looks to be the odd-man out. Sanders is a must-start after posting the fourth-most fantasy points (29.5) at the wide receiver position in Week 1. With an over/under total of 53.5, Vegas is forecasting a high-scoring game between Pittsburgh and Kansas City, which should mean plenty of opportunity for JuJu Smith-Schuster, who is coming off of a 100-yard game. Stefon Diggs is someone I was very high on coming into the season. Even though he managed just three receptions on six targets in Week 1, I expect the talented receiver to be a bigger part of the offense moving forward.

Mike's Take: I'm not buying into the Ryan Fitzpatrick hype after his impressive performance against the Saints to open the season. He's been around the league for a while and has proven to be an inconsistent quarterback everywhere he's played. On the flip side, I fully expect Matthew Stafford to bounce back this week against the 49ers in what should be a back and forth shootout. With Golden Tate, Marvin Jones, and Kenny Golladay at his disposal, Stafford should still produce QB1 numbers moving forward, especially versus a 49ers defense that allowed 20.4 points to Kirk Cousins in Week 1.  Case Keenum would be the next best option with a favorable matchup against the Raiders defense.

Mike's Take: I'm going with Freeman over Lynch at RB. The Broncos held Seattle's running backs to just 59 yards rushing and allowed most of their fantasy points to the RB position through the air. Lynch doesn't match up well in this contest, as Jalen Richard could easily lead the team in touches and fantasy points in back-to-back weeks. Freeman has the better chance to score, more receiving capabilities despite the sudden emergence of Phillip Lindsay, and the better matchup in Week 2. As for your WR question, Josh Gordon should see more playing time this week and could have the fantasy luxury of playing from behind. He is Cleveland's second best receiving option at the moment, while Ted Ginn is far behind Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara. Ginn is more reliant on the deep ball and if the game-script goes as many expect, he may not get many looks in Week 2.

To have your questions featured next week on our mailbag, please send them to @1ststopfantasy and hashtag #RotoBallerMailbag. Good luck in your Week 2 matchups!
