Brian Thomas Jr. Injury Report: Will Thomas Play in Week 3 for Fantasy Football?

Brian Thomas Jr - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Injury News

Will Brian Thomas Jr. play in Week 3 for fantasy football? Is Brian Thomas Jr. injured or hurt heading into Week 3 of 2025? Read the latest Brian Thomas Jr. injury report.

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. (wrist) has unfortunately had a slow start to his 2025 NFL season. Despite being a first or second round pick in the vast majority of fantasy football leagues this season, he has yet to score double-digit PPR fantasy points in either of his first two contests.

He's come close, racking up 9.0 fantasy points in Week 1 and 8.9 in Week 2, but for such an athletic WR that finished as the WR1 overall in PPR fantasy leagues in points scored during the typical fantasy playoff window, i.e. Weeks 15-17, we expected a lot more from the second-year pro.

Still, there's plenty of time to right the ship. And Jacksonville underwent a coaching and management change, hiring offensive-minded coach Liam Coen to run the ship, so it's reasonable to expect miscues early on. But with Thomas now dealing with an injury, can we expect to see him play in Week 3?

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Brian Thomas Jr. Fantasy Football Injury Update

Thomas is dealing with a wrist injury, though we didn't know it before his Week 2 game. It was reported that he decided to play through his wrist aliment, signifying that it was already present, and is now an ongoing issue. Thomas is now properly listed on the team's injury report.

NFL players suffer countless small injuries when playing in the league. Running and changing directions at high speeds, enduring collisions with other massive human beings traveling very quickly, and crashing into the ground on numerous plays tends to do that to the human body.

Some injuries start out small and gradually worsen over time. It's possible that Thomas had some kind of wrist pain that he didn't see as too serious, but it was re-aggravated during the Week 2 contest. Players constantly play through severe pain, and endure lots of strains, bumps, and bruises that aren't listed on the injury reports.

Jaguars head coach Liam Coen was none too pleased with his team's performance, so it's possible that even he didn't know of Thomas' wrist issue beforehand. Players might not be totally up front about every issue they have, especially if they don't view some of them as important.

Is Brian Thomas Jr. Playing in Week 3?

It's unclear whether he'll take the field in Week 3. We don't have knowledge of what his specific injury is. The human wrist is a very complicated structure, consisting of many bones and ligaments, and whatever medical scans Thomas may have had, or information from his doctor's visits, might not be made available to the public.

There hasn't been any clear worry about Thomas potentially missing the game, though, so for now, we should expect him to play in Week 3 until we hear otherwise. Whether he'll be able to perform better is another question altogether.

Brian Thomas Jr. Fantasy Football Outlook for Week 3

It's hard to project how Thomas will do when the Jaguars take on the Houston Texans in Week 3. Thomas' lingering injury apparently caused him problems, as there were plays where he failed to make grabs, most egregiously a drop near the goal line when he was wide open.

There have been reports that Thomas was intentionally avoiding contact on some plays. That would make sense, so as to protect his wrist, if it's in pain. It's a tricky situation to navigate right now, but it makes sense to bump his projection down at least slightly.

Thomas was targeted 12 times in Week 2, but only hauled in four passes for 49 yards. He nearly made a touchdown grab, but failed to get both feet in bounds. Through the first two games, Thomas and Lawrence have failed to connect on a variety of targets.

The Texans have one of the league's best pass defenses, so it might be difficult for BTJr to have a big day. Last season, Thomas averaged over 20 PPR points per game in his two matchups with Houston, but it's a new year, and NFL defenses have much more tape on him that they'll utilize to try to slow him down.

If you drafted him, you should keep him in your starting lineups, though. His elite athleticism will always allow him to make big plays when he gets back on track. The Jaguars offense as a whole has been very inconsistent, too, with a ton of WR drops. Things should smooth out over the course of the next few weeks.
