Bold Predictions for Fantasy Football Week 6: Matthew Stafford, Raheem Mostert, Breece Hall, Ja’Marr Chase, Dallas Goedert

Dallas Goedert - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Injury News

Mike Fanelli gives his fantasy football bold predictions for Week 6 of the NFL season, giving fantasy players something to think about when setting their lineups.

Week 6 is here, and I’m back with another edition of fantasy football bold predictions. This week’s list of bold predictions will include Matthew Stafford, Raheem Mostert, Breece Hall, Ja'Marr Chase, and Dallas Goedert.

Every week, I will provide some fun and bold fantasy football predictions. While these bold predictions aren’t the most likely outcomes, they are things I believe could happen this week.

Let’s look at my five bold predictions for Week 6 of the 2023 NFL season.

Matthew Stafford

Has a top-three performance against the Arizona Cardinals

The veteran quarterback has been productive this season. He is the QB17 on the year, averaging 14.6 fantasy points per game. Over the first four weeks, the former No. 1 overall pick averaged 307.3 passing yards per game but scored more than 14.5 fantasy points only once because of a lack of touchdowns. However, the touchdown production changed last week against the Philadelphia Eagles.

First, the Eagles have been one of the more fantasy-friendly teams to quarterbacks this season. Second and more importantly, Cooper Kupp made his season debut. Stafford had two passing touchdowns in Week 5, a season-high. With Kupp and Puka Nacua on the field together, the veteran quarterback has a significant fantasy upside. Meanwhile, the former No. 1 overall pick has an excellent matchup this week.

Stafford faces the Cardinals in Week 6. The division rivals have given up 21 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks this year, the fourth-most in the NFL. Furthermore, they have surrendered 21.2 or more fantasy points to quarterbacks three times this season, including 23.4 to Joe Burrow last week. Stafford has averaged 272 passing yards and 1.7 touchdowns per game in three career matchups against Arizona as a member of the Rams.

Raheem Mostert…

Finds the end zone twice against an awful run defense

Unfortunately, Week 5 wasn’t friendly to fantasy players. Four key fantasy options suffered injuries that landed them on the injured reserve list -- Anthony Richardson, James Conner, Justin Jefferson, and De'Von Achane. With the explosive rookie running back on the shelf for at least the next four games, Mostert will reclaim the No. 1 running back role for the Miami Dolphins.

The veteran running back has been outstanding this season despite Achane’s dominating performances. Mostert is the RB2, averaging 19.5 half-point PPR fantasy points per game in 2023. Furthermore, the former Purdue star has eight touchdowns this year, tied with Christian McCaffrey for the most in the NFL, including one last week. Mostert has put up those numbers despite Achane being third in the league with seven touchdowns.

Meanwhile, the Carolina Panthers are the team without a win this season. More importantly, their run defense has been awful. Carolina has given up eight rushing touchdowns to running backs, the most in the NFL. They have surrendered two rushing scores in all but one game this year, including last week. That trend will continue this week, with Mostert finding the end zone twice.

Breece Hall…

Crashes back down to Earth

Last week, I predicted that Hall would be a top-three running back. The former Iowa State star was the RB3 in Week 5, scoring 26.9 half-point PPR fantasy points against the Denver Broncos. Thankfully, the New York Jets removed the snap count from Hall’s workload. More importantly, the second-year running back faced an awful Denver defense last week.

The Broncos have been the most fantasy-friendly team to opposing running backs this season, giving up 39.3 fantasy points per game. Running backs have averaged 225 rushing yards and two touchdowns per game against Denver over the past three weeks. Unfortunately, Hall doesn’t face a cupcake run defense in Week 5. Instead, he takes on an elite Philadelphia Eagles unit.

Philadelphia has held running backs to only 10.5 fantasy points per game this season, the fewest in the NFL. They have surrendered fewer than seven fantasy points in 60% of the contests, including six or fewer twice. Over the past four weeks, opposing running backs have averaged 3.1 yards per rushing attempt and 8.3 fantasy points per game against the Eagles. Hall will crash back down to Earth after his massive Week 5 performance.

Ja’Marr Chase…

Has at least 150 receiving yards for the second consecutive week

The entire fantasy football world had a heart attack during the preseason when Joe Burrow suffered a non-contact injury. Thankfully, it wasn’t a torn Achilles, and the superstar quarterback hasn’t missed a game this year. However, the Cincinnati Bengals have struggled on offense because of the injury. While the team had a decent performance in Week 3, they were awful the following week despite an excellent matchup against a poor Tennessee Titans secondary.

However, the Bengals got back on track last week against the Arizona Cardinals. Chase averaged 7.3 receptions on 10.3 targets for 71 receiving yards and 10.8 half-point PPR fantasy points per game over the first month this year, with zero touchdowns. By comparison, the superstar had 15 receptions on 19 targets for 192 receiving yards and 44.7 fantasy points, totaling three touchdowns in the win. Meanwhile, there is beef brewing between Chase and his opponent in Week 6.

Earlier this week, Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf said he believes rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon will get the best of Chase in this upcoming game. The superstar wide receiver reposted a video of Metcalf’s statement on X/Twitter. Meanwhile, the Seahawks have surrendered the second-most fantasy points (39) and the second-most receiving yards (220.8) per game to wide receivers this season. Chase will have another outstanding performance against this struggling defense.

Dallas Goedert…

Is the TE1 against the New York Jets

Goedert was one of several players who struggled to start the season but broke out of their funk in Week 5. The veteran was the TE32 over the first four weeks, averaging only 3.8 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. Despite averaging 4.8 targets per game, seeing at least seven twice, Goedert scored fewer than 6.7 fantasy points in all four contests to start the year. Thankfully, that wasn't the case against the Los Angeles Rams.

Last week, the former South Dakota State star had eight receptions on nine targets for 117 receiving yards and 21.7 fantasy points in the win, setting season-highs in every category. He also scored his first touchdown of the year against Los Angeles. Following his impressive performance in Week 5, Goedert is now the TE10 for the season, averaging 7.4 fantasy points per game, a higher average than Darren Waller and Kyle Pitts.

Unfortunately, the veteran wasn't the top-scoring tight end last week. George Kittle took home that honor after scoring three touchdowns and 26.2 fantasy points against the Dallas Cowboys. However, Goedert will be the TE1 this week. He faces a New York Jets defense that has surrendered the most fantasy points per game to tight ends over the past four weeks (16), including five touchdowns. Goedert should have no trouble destroying the Jets on Sunday.
