Dave Funnell's Fantasy Baseball Injury Report -- updates for Jordan Westburg, Tyler Glasnow, Blake Snell, Luis Robert Jr., Jeremy Pena, and more.
Welcome, RotoBallers, to my fantasy baseball injury report for June 29. Every week, we look back at the major injury developments in baseball and look ahead at what might transpire. Today, we examine recent injuries and updates for Jordan Westburg, Tyler Glasnow, Blake Snell, Luis Robert Jr., Jeremy Pena, and more.
Injuries are an unfortunate part of the game, but how you handle them can mean the difference between a last-place finish and somewhere near the top of your league's standings.
The hope is that whatever comes your way, you can understand what the injury is, what it means for your fantasy team, and what actions you should take. Let's get right to this week's injury-related news.

Jordan Westburg - 2B, Baltimore Orioles
Orioles’ Jordan Westburg re-aggrivated his left index finger injury tonight, Tony Mansolino says. X-rays came back negative but he is day to day again.

Jordan Westburg reinjured his left index finger on Friday, doing so while sliding into second base. He left the game, and while the X-rays on his finger came back negative, this remains something that is and should be worrisome for his fantasy value in both redraft and dynasty leagues.
First, the injury itself offers some worry in that he has reaggravated the ligaments in the finger for the second time in less than a week. The question of whether he returned too soon is a valid one, though the way he injured it was through a baseball slide, which is a normal occurrence for most players. Some may think of it as a fluky injury, and it might be. As such, the team may take a more cautious approach here, as most teams do so when an injury happens multiple times.
Digging deeper, this latest injury is beginning a trend down a road no fantasy player wants to see, and that's being injury-prone. First, his left hand has undergone a considerable amount of wear and tear over the years. If we include these two latest times missed, Westburg will have had five different times where he has suffered a fractured or bruised hand in his short career.
That's a significant amount, and it includes one instance that lasted seven weeks in the summer of 2024. In addition to this, he also missed significant time earlier this season with an injured hamstring, resulting in six weeks of the season missed.
What does this all mean? Dating back to his major league debut in June 2023, Westburg ranks 216th out of 318 batters in games played with at least 500 plate appearances. And while his 211 games played feel like a decent number, keep in mind he has the same number of games played as Luis Rengifo, who is known for injuring and reinjuring himself.
Fantasy owners should not be afraid to roster Westburg, especially in leagues with spots on the injured list. While he's not a candidate to be placed on the injured list for this injury, he remains a risk of doing so with any setbacks or future problems. That being said, remembering this injury history is a note that should be remembered when evaluating his value. He plays like and gets injured similarly to, dare I say, Byron Buxton, and may also offer the same frustration level as well.
MLB Injury News Quick Hits
The Dodgers are patiently waiting for two important pieces of their rotation to finally pay dividends this season. Blake Snell isn't close to facing live batters yet despite using a wide array of pitches in his arsenal. Meanwhile, Tyler Glasnow struggled with his efficiency in his second rehab outing, but he did stretch himself out to 66 pitches thrown. It's unclear when he will be ready to return, but the team has indicated that he will need many more rehab starts before returning to the Dodgers because of how much he struggled his last time out there..
Good news out of San Diego, as Michael King resumed playing catch this week. On Monday, he threw from 105 feet, and then on Wednesday, he did more of the same without lingering pain, though things don't feel the same as they stand. He has a long way to go before returning, but if he can continue to stay active without any setbacks, he's worth waiting for.
Michael King threw on the field Friday for the second time in four days. He said the area around his scapula still is not quite feeling normal. "But way, way less less than it was before,” he said. “And that’s more like strength and range of motion.”
King considers any notion he…

Josh Naylor had himself a week that he will want to forget. After being removed with shoulder discomfort on Monday, he then left Friday's game with neck stiffness. It's unclear if both injuries are related, but with both parts of the body that close, it's fair to be concerned. It's also unclear if this will require a trip to the injured list, as he did miss Saturday's game as well.
Brandon Woodruff will begin his next rehab assignment today, and the hope is that he won't need many appearances before finally making his 2025 season debut. Our collective fingers are crossed that he won't suffer any other injuries in the process.
Brandon Woodruff is slated to begin a new rehab assignment on Sunday for Triple-A Nashville.
That sets him up to *tentatively* make his long-awaited return to the Brewers the following weekend at Miami.

Luis Robert Jr. injured his hamstring on Wednesday, but the team said yesterday that he was feeling better. While he was available off the bench, the team was cognizant about his cautious usage, as it remains committed to his long-term health and performance.
Jeremy Pena injured his ribs on Friday night, and while it looks like he avoided a serious injury, he was still pretty sore as of yesterday. His status moving forward is unclear, though the team remains confident that he will return soon enough. He was almost ready to play yesterday, so the belief is that he will avoid the injured list.
Wyatt Langford was placed on the injured list on Friday with a strained left oblique. While the specific severity of the ailment was not revealed, the team acknowledged that it is of the very minor variety. What makes this peculiar is the fact that he missed time earlier in the season with a Grade 1 right oblique strain as well. While it's not the same thing, it is eerily similar and could be considered a recurring injury. The team has not addressed this situation, other than placing him on the injured list.
Zach Neto was out of the starting lineup yesterday, despite being used as a pinch hitter the night before. Since injuring his shoulder on Wednesday, he has been used sparingly, as the team is taking a cautious approach regarding his recovery. This is the same shoulder that he injured at the end of last season and had surgically repaired. He did play catch yesterday in warmups, but was left out of the starting lineup.
