Rex Burkhead 2020 Outlook: Beginning Of The End?
5 years agoNew England Patriots running back Rex Burkhead will enter his fourth season with the team in 2020. The veteran proved to be a useful commodity at times for the organization in 2019 and finished the season with 302 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 65 attempts. He also added 27 catches for 279 receiving yards. While Burkhead did produce some of the best numbers of his career last season, he has been historically plagued by injuries, with the 29-year-old missing a combined 17 games throughout his tenure in New England. Sony Michel is expected to receive more touches and James White is still in the picture, so the 29-year-old will likely compete with second-year back Damien Harris for scraps. He may come in handy if someone becomes injured or for the occasional touchdown, just like he has in the past, but he can't be classified as a week-to-week fantasy back, making him undraftable unless a more substantial role is defined for him between now and the start of the year.
