FanDuel MLB DFS Lineup Picks (8/21/19): Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice

Joel Bartilotta highlights the top FanDuel MLB DFS lineup picks for 8/21/19, and a couple of sleepers to consider while building daily rosters.

It’s been a fun season and we’re finally getting to the nitty-gritty. After a big day on Tuesday, we’re going to look to keep rolling here.

On FanDuel, you'll find a tournament that fits your price range, no matter what it is. The $9.99 Rally is the featured tourney of the night and will prize $50k to first place. Let's jump right in and find a top play at each position!

Be sure to also check out all the Vegas Odds for today's slate. You can also read more DFS advice and lineup picks for sites like FanDuel, and other sports too. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to hit me up on Twitter @Bartilottajoel

FanDuel DFS Pitchers

Yu Darvish, CHC vs. SF ($9,700)

Darvish was in many of my preseason articles suggesting him as a bargain in season-long leagues and he’s finally showing why I loved him so much. Over his last seven starts, Darvish is pitching to a 2.36 ERA, 0.74 WHIP and 12.2 K/9 rate. Those are simply elite numbers and it’s why he’s scored at least 42 FanDuel points in five of those fixtures. Getting to face the Giants may be the best part of this play though, with San Francisco ranked 25th in runs scored, 26th in OPS, 24th in OBP and 25th in wOBA. That’s why he enters this matchup as a –200 favorite.

Julio Teheran, ATL vs. MIA ($9,000)

I hate to use BvP stats but this is getting downright absurd. Teheran has been wildly inconsistent all season long but not against the Marlins. In four starts against them this season, Teheran has a 0.36 ERA and 0.72 WHIP while striking out 22 batters across 25 innings of action. That’s obviously ridiculous and it’s really no surprise when you see that Miami ranks bottom-three in runs scored, OBP, OPS, wOBA and xwOBA. All of this makes Teheran hard to avoid and the fact that he’s a –210 favorite is the icing on the cake.

FanDuel DFS Infielders

Daniel Murphy – 1B, COL at ARI ($3,000)

This price just continues to surprise me. Murphy has been a different hitter since the opening month and it’s curious as to why FanDuel is keeping his price so low. Over his last 75 games, Murph is hitting .311 while generating an .846 OPS. That’s all you can ask for from a player priced this low, especially considering he gets to face a weak righty. Not only does Murphy have an OPS north of .900 against righties since 2017, he also gets to face Mike Leake and his 4.64 ERA and 1.33 WHIP. That matchup caters to Murphy beautifully, with Leake being one of the worst strikeout-pitchers in the league and Murph being one of the best contact0hitters around.

Jose Altuve - 2B, HOU vs. DET ($4,400)

Picking second basemen sucks but Altuve is always a fantastic option. His recent production is downright absurd, with the little man posting a .352 AVG and 1.028 OPS over his last 41 games. That alone makes him a great option but getting the platoon advantage against Daniel Norris is awesome too. Norris’ 4.82 ERA and 1.41 WHIP are ugly enough but Altuve’s .392 AVG, .810 SLG and 1.247 OPS against left-handers are downright fantastic.

Mike Moustakas – 3B, MIL at STL ($3,800)

Moose was in a horrible slump before this weekend but all of that regression appeared to hit hard the last few games. In fact, Moustakas has three homers and eight RBI over his last three games. That is far from uprising when you consider that Moustakas is well on his way to setting career-highs across the board. The reason we like him today is because he faces Adam Wainwright, who’s allowing left-handed batters to post a .383 OBP, .502 SLG and .368 wOBA against him this season.

Xander Bogaerts – SS, BOS vs. PHI ($4,000)

Bogaerts is having a breakout season for the Red Sox and it’s hard to fade him in a matchup like this. Let’s start with the pitcher, as Bogaerts and the Sox will face Drew Smyly. This dude has simply been one of the worst pitchers in the league, accruing a 7.09 ERA and 1.66 WHIP. That’s truly frightening against all of these potent righties in Fenway Park and Bogaerts should do a big portion of the damage. We’re talking about a guy with a .309 AVG, .384 OBP, .562 SLG and .946 OPS getting the platoon advantage against a gas can like Smyly.

FanDuel DFS Outfielders

Corey Dickerson, PHI at BOS ($3,200)

Smyly has been terrible for the Phillies but it’s not like the Red Sox are sending out an ace on their end. They happen to be throwing out Rick Porcello, who’s pitching to a 5.49 ERA and 1.41 WHIP. That’s really scary against Dickerson, as he’s absolutely obliterated right-handers throughout his career. That’s evident by his .363 wOBA, .553 SLG and .243 ISO against righties for his career and he’s actually been even better this year. In fact, Dickerson has a .328 AVG, .613 SLG and .986 OPS with the platoon advantage in his favor.

Stephen Piscotty, OAK vs. NYY ($3,200)

Piscotty is yet another guy who’s been brilliant with the platoon advantage in his favor this season. So far this year, Piscotty is providing a .366 AVG, .646 SLG and 1.044 OPS against left-handed pitching. Those are some of the best splits around and it really makes him an intriguing option against J.A. Happ. The Yankees lefty is currently in the midst of one of his worst seasons, pitching to a 5.40 ERA and 1.37 WHIP this season.
