Teoscar Hernandez 2021 Outlook: A Breakout to Believe In
4 years agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder Teoscar Hernandez was one of the standout batters of the 2020 season. His 16 home runs tied for seventh in the majors, he batted a career-high .289 and even chipped in six steals over 50 games. Hernandez had flashed power before, clubbing 22 and 26 homers the previous two seasons, but it usually came with a lowly batting average in the .230s. Hernandez clicked on all cylinders from the start, finishing with an xBA, xSLG, Hard Hit%, and Barrel% that were all above the 90th percentile. That's nothing unusual for Hernandez, who has posted superb barrel rates for the past four seasons. Now that he is hitting in the heart of a dangerous young Jays lineup, Hernandez is a five-category contributor who can be counted on as a strong second outfielder in fantasy leagues. Of course, his hard-hitting ways also come with a high strikeout rate that is consistently above 30%, making him slightly less valuable in points leagues. Hernandez should see his name called as one of the top 20 outfielders in fantasy drafts.
