Micah Parsons 2024 Outlook: Sacks Should Be Enough
6 months agoMicah Parsons finished seventh in the NFL in sacks last year, which is good but not great for a guy considered a top-five fantasy defender. He also finished with the third most quarterback hits, and his burst on tape is still elite, meaning he remains a threat for 15+ sacks. However, Parsons also ranked 17th amongst edges in total pressures and solo tackles last year. Worse, he generated a career-worst forced turnover. There is also a risk that new Dallas Defensive Coordinator Mike Zimmer may dial back using Parsons on base downs. Zimmer historically likes to field heavier linebackers and edge players against the run. None of this should drop Parsons out of the top-ten fantasy defender conversation, but his tackle and turnover upside may be more limited than some think. Parsons' sack ability still makes him a top-five fantasy DL with elite upside in sack-premium scoring. The Penn State product even has Defensive Player of the Year potential. However, in tackle-premium or turnover-premium scoring, edges like Nick Bosa, or even Aidan Hutchinson, have arguments for going higher.
